Default Better CC Lane event editing (Shift-Left/Drag) (DONE)

> I'd like the ability to use Shift-Left/Drag (Create straight line of cc events) to work without selecting any events regardless whether the cursor is on an event or not.

> Also if there are any events allready selected, they should be unselected as soon as you hit Shift-Left mouse.

Below shows the way it works now. Notice that if the cursor is on an event, it selects the event makeing it impossible to continue drawing the straight line and you have to tick the cursor outside of the events to continue.

Since Shift-Left/Drag is used for Createing a straight line of existing CC events, there's no reason it should be selecting events.

Agreed.

Seeing how painfully you're doing CC editing there, this one is related, too:

We need SMOOTHER CC editing. Please. We need to be able to start drawing even when the first mouse click was OVER an existing CC bar. Please. FL is still better here than Reaper.

A little bump to say this might easily be implimented with a mouse modifier.

And ability to start drawing not only from empty space should be implemented, as well.

Yes, but of course if you left click on an event it would still have to be selected like it is now so it would probably have to have a modifier.

Like I mentioned above since Shift-Left/Drag is used for Createing a straight line of existing CC events, there's no reason it should be selecting events. Also, if there are events already selected they should be unselected. So if you Shift-LeftClick on an existing event it should be adjusted to the level of the cursor, then adjust the rest of the events accordingly as you drag.

So possibly add these options to the Midi Mouse Modifiers>>

>Linear ramp CC events without selecting events, unselect any selected events

>Draw/edit CC events without selecting events, unselect any selected events

What do you think ED or anyone else interested in improving CC editing.

Agreed!

I do think we need to have it optional to make selecting as a modifier, and drawing as ordinary action replacing anything and everything without selecting anything. Like in FL.

4.02 now added drawing modifiers to CC event mouse contexts! So this FL behavior is NOW POSSIBLE!!!

Hey ED, sounds good, can you explain exactly which modifiers your talking about? I'm assumeing these are "Midi CC event" modifiers?

I'm assumeing this has something to do with it and I'm afraid I totally misunderstood.

I've never realy examined the "Midi CC event" modifiers very closely so not sure wich one's are pertinent. Exactly which ones should I be looking at ED?

Just put "Draw CC event" as your default action in MIDI CC event context. Now you can do it just like in FL, as shown in my GIF

thanks EvilDragon! I agree with Tod, this is great!!

I've been drawing nice curves now.. but it takes a lot of time to make nice log, bezel, slow start slow end, fast start fast end like curves. I think it would be great if there would be some midi envelopes, similar to the envelopes used for the audio files..

e.g. you choose a start and end point and you can set the kind of curve you would like to have between those two with right click!! would save so much time!!

I thought midi was better in v4 but its still not good. I'm getting annoyed at moving notes while trying to do simple curves too!

This should be priority.

I didn't know about that modifier either, thanks EvilDragon, big improvement, but envelopes would still be very cool.

Yes it would but it would have to be selectable with each lane which would be really cool.

The default behavior is indeed not very good. I often use a portable installation with default settings for testing purposes, and I can see this clearly. One shouldn't have to customize some esoteric settings to avoid anomalies such as this one (i.e. selecting and moving a single CC event while intending to draw new CC events)

A much better solution would be something like this: CC event bars can only be selected from their top. A small area/circle/dot/box on the top selects the event. The rest of the CC bar is not selectable. So you could draw through bars and not select by mistake.

Also...

a) a little pencil cursor while drawing would be nice (similar to the eraser when... erasing)

b) the cursors should appear as soon as you hold the modifier key (to confirm the action beforehand), they currently only appear during the operation

Notes was the wrong word. Maybe I meant cc points? (the little red bars)

I think that if envelopes (as they work with ReaControl) were implemented inside tracks (without the help of any external FX like the mentioned ReaControl) it would be great.

I've made a chainFX with this only purpose, but I do think it should be implemented in a faster and "cozier" way.
