Default I'm setting tempo changes to linear in the tempo envelope but all it does is average

Hello. Is this a bug or again a hidden setting whose default has changed since earlier REAPER versions. I used linear tempo changes before to produce a "rise up/down" effect but now the tempo in essence keeps constant throughout the timeline.

How do I fix this? Thanks.

I do it by inserting a tempo marker (e.g. at bar 3):

then set another tempo marker where I want to start my accellerando
ticking 'gradually transition to next marker':

I tried that, but I understand now what's the issue. REAPER tempo changes don't do gradual effect on recorded audio, so it apparently just averages the tempo change. What I did eventually was to use the playrate envelope.

You can easily do that with stretch markers
(default shortcut shift+w I think)..
Make sure that 'Preserve pitch when changing rate' is ticked in the Media Item Properties.

Ah, I thought the markers can only separate segments to evenly tempoed sections.
