Default Files truncated to punched over location after 'save as'

When recording in 'normal' mode and 'trims existing items behind new recording (tape mode)', not using takes, it sporadically happens that, after a 'save as', updated name and working from new project, files that existed under manually punched in audio and that could previously be extended back out to reveal are now truncated at the punched in points and the audio underneath is lost. The file names in the two projects are still the same but the new file now ends at the punch point.

Trying to figure out the exact conditions, as it doesn't happen every time but it's been happening often for a while. Latest version, OS X 10.11.6.

Big problem, as punching in a hair before needed, and cutting off a tiny bit of what you'll extend back later, is pretty common with a tight punch. But, as I say, instead of the underneath surviving, which it does in the original project, the underneath is lost.

Perhaps you saved-as with the "copy media" and "trim media" option selected?

Thanks Justin. It's only a small, seemingly random bunch of thes that happen among other punches that stay ok, and that's through many save as's through the day. So far unable to repeat what *seems* to be happening when I try, so not any more good clues, but I need to spend more time solely devoted to try to get it to happen. It has cropped up for me for a year or so. Wondering if there might be an action that I'm unwittingly triggering.

Thanks.
