Default not 3d

Themers need to stop using the term '3d' to describe the appearance of what can only be 2d, due to the fact it's on a screen and looks the same even if you're sammy davis jr. (were he still alive, rest his soul)

its going to be confusing once WALTER supports 3d screens, which i hear might be coming with version 5.

If you want to get into such arguments, then you should not ignore time as a third dimension. Anything that moves in 2D is 3D.

(I hope v5 supports a quintuple holodust setup, in any case. )

Well, that's the least we can (should) expect (even if MIDI functionality is decades behind other DAWs).

If an image has any kind of perspective, its technically 3D.

Example: If you can see the side of a slider, or the underside of a knob.

I'm waiting for the time when you can walk right into a track,
see the trees and the bees flying around, just making a quick fade-in of an item,
which you can see disappearing somewhere at the horizon, looking into a beautiful sunset,
while naked girls come flying from the sky...

That would be 3D !

The two senses that are being ignored here are smell and taste.

We seriously need to be able to smell the track for "issues" and taste adjustments to fx parameters.

Reaper is decades behind other DAWs on this.

imo that's still 2D. stereoscopic "3D" is not true 3D - it's simply two 2D images to kinda/sorta mimic it. just like stereo sound isn't true surround sound but gets pretty close.

AudioGL through Oculus Rift using Razar/Hydra controls (http://www.razerzone.com/VRpromo )... now that might be something to consider for some funny "3D" experience. Hell, with per-finger haptic controls (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-DS1U_INpQ)... imagine actually turning knobs and seeing it all as if you were there... ughghgh... would be interesting to try at least

Time is an artifact caused by memory, and it is only understandable at the moment in one dimension, according to most educated physicists. It's not even a dimension, according to Dr Felixo Schrödingo at the quantum physics laboratorio d' Ontolo.

I've yet to see anything on a computer that I would consider to be 3D. What passes for 3D takes a fair bit of imagination, unles you have a pair of goofy glasses on.

Felixo is quite welcome to add a FR for removal of the time line and transport bar. As an option, of course - as we wouldn't want to piss off the uneducated physicists relying on such features.

What would be fun is scrolling to support the parallax effect.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jx4RXwiWEx4

Have no idea how it could be useful now, but I'm sure there is a use.
Maybe the time or measures displayed above the waveform could be imbeded inside and scroll at a different rate according to length of units.

exactly. no matter if it's 3d style with beveled buttons or whatever, it's contained on the 2d plane of the screen.

also agreed. all of the technology that i know of* is some kind of eye trickery - i.e. some scheme for getting properly-configured and slightly different images to each eye for the brain to interpret it as 3d.

* except for the holodust that banned mentioned - i hadn't seen that before.

(all ignoring the time dimension, of course)

Medical conditions

Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder is also in part characterized by a form of pedantry that is overly concerned with the correct following of rules, procedures and practices.[5] Sometimes the rules that OCPD sufferers obsessively follow are of their own devising, or are corruptions or re-interpretations of the letter of actual rules.
Pedantry can also be an indication of specific developmental disorders. In particular, persons with Asperger's Syndrome often have behaviour characterized by pedantic speech.[6]

'Technically' 3D, are you sure?
I would have thought for something to be 'technically' 3D it would actually have to be 3D, rather than an interpretation of 3D.

You know those books that offer 3d images when you kinda cross your eyes?

http://www.thread-of-awareness.com/IMAGES/STEREO.GIF

The same thing can happen when using a computer monitor.
I've done it with several themes.
No illegal substance required!

Try it, don't hurt yourself;-)

Cheers!
