Default Master track: Width control in themes?

I've noticed that some themes (not all) have a Width control displayed on the Master track MCP or TCP.

Does that make sense?

I cannot see a way of activating it. For a track, I right-click on the Pan control ans select the appropriate Pan Mode, but that is not available for the Master track's Pan control.

You can change the master pan mode in the project settings.
In other words, the master track uses the global project pan mode.

The width control has the same function as the one on a normal track.
If you set it to zero and you render your project (master mix) to a new file,
you will see that the new file is a mono one.

I can not explain, but i have the feeling that something is wrong with the master pan modes.

(I think I may have asked about this subject before. But I forget the answer. )

Anyway, I altered the setting in Project Settings. The Width knob appeared on the tracks but not on the Master track. On investigation of the .rpp file, the PANMODE is changed, but the MASTER_PANMODE is not.

If I change the MASTER_PANMODE to 6, then open the project, the Width knob does show up.

Is this a bug or a brain-bug?

I thought the width knob only appears on the master track when you allow it via walter.

So you say that you enter a 6 at the MASTER_PANMODE and the width knob shows up, while it doesn't when you change the project pan mode ?
Strange.

I had a look at some of my .rpp files. The MASTER_PANMODE is always at -1, no matter which global pan mode i use. Maybe the -1 stands for using the project pan mode ?

Edit: pan mode 6 is dual pan. maybe that's the reason the width knob (as a function of the right pan) shows up.

I looked back through several .rpp files - MASTERPANMODE is set to 3 in all of them.

I think that that is the problem. I changed it to -1 and now the Width / Right Pan knob appears when it should when I change the Pan Mode in Project Settings.

After setting the Pan Mode and saving the project, MASTERPANMODE is still set to -1.

-------------------
I think I'll raise this as a bug (after I have edited my Project Templates, all of which are set to 3 too).

One thing i don't understand:
How did you get other numbers than -1 for the MASTER_PANMODE ?

I saved some projects with all the possible pan modes, but the MASTER_PANMODE always stays at -1.

No idea.
Something adrift in a previous Reaper version?

Made some further tests:

I right-clicked on the master pan and changed the pan law to -3 and activated 'boost pans'. (stereo balance/mono pan , pan law -3, boost pans is my default project setting)
Then i saved the project and made a check. The project has been saved correctly. I looked into the .rpp file and MASTERPANMODE is still at -1. Mmh...
So it seems that the master track is not using the global project settings.
You can switch the master pan modes in the ps but you can not change the pan law or activate the gain compensation.

Seems that this bug http://forum.cockos.com/project.php?issueid=3452 still exist.
Making changes in the master pan dialog does not affect anything at all.

In my case, the pan law is still at zero and there is no gain compensation.

Weird.
