Mostly due to the lack of a francophone guy telling Schwa how a french forum would even be called.

If enough users want some new language forum, we can add more. Anyone know how to say "French-speaking REAPER user forum" in French? Or similarly Portuguese?

GREAT! I was thinking it was due to a lack of (not-so-busy) francophone mod!
So, to match the existing spanish/german forum titles, here's one simple proposition for schwa: "Le forum de REAPER en français"
(be carefull with the stange "c" in "français" it's indeed "ç" !)

If you want more rock'n'roll title ideas, let me know!

note: errr... "lack of francophone guy"!?? arround schwa?
Do you mean Christophe does not belong to the dev team anymore !!??!!!

[Edit] wo! 2 posts in between, I was replying to Steindork...

What about a forum for our Chinese speaking friends?

Could be called "REAPER中文用户论坛".

I believe the italian user base would benefit the most from a native language forum.

Could be:

"Forum per utenti italiani di Reaper"

or

"Forum di Reaper in Italiano"

I think, multi speaking support forums increase the users of Reaper.

Here in Türkiye, we discuss, teach, help etc. Reaper/Reaper users in just one forum. Most of the musician/producer learn the beings of Reaper by chance. Native language forums spread the Reaper. Also, increase usage and bug's reports.

I support multi-language for Reaper 'cause believe me or not most of the people are using the reaper don't know English enough for use the Reaper %100. Mean, they can't use Reaper's benefits.

"Turkish-speaking REAPER user forum" => "Reaper Türkçe Kullanıcı Forumu"

So what's "Klingon speaking REAPER forum" on Klingon?

Anyway does this new language forums also mean we're gonna see localization (as in language) for REAPER?

Also why not make a "Other languages" forum as well, in which each thread can be in a different language, and once a language is very popular it becomes its own forum?

In brazilian portuguese it's "Fórum do REAPER em português".

I don't care one way or the other because English is my first language, but I'm wondering.... Won't having a forum where none of the developers can interact with the people in the forum be detrimental? You'll end up having everyone complaining about what needs fixing but nobody who can do anything about it able to even know what's been requested, let alone respond and advise.

That's right, but OTOH most questions deal with 'how is this done', 'how do i set that up' and the like.
These kinds of questions can be answered in the foreign language forum.

Well, it's less detrimmental than not being able to voice a FR or comment because of not speaking or reading english well.
In case of FR or bug reports, the subforum can serve as a help to find an english description of the issue that can be brought over to the english forum (and back to the non-english if needed). In case of people searching for help the advantages are obvious.

EDIT: Ah, yeah. As that other Kraut above me just said.

I think the main purpose of these forums is helping people who don't speak english. If a yet unknown bug turns up there or advice from one of the english speaking experts here is needed, the other users and forum moderators will (hopefully) take care of that. Complaints are only allowed in the klingon forum anyway.

Edit: Meh too slow.

Given that some of the most helpful and knowledgeable people on this forum are not native English speakers, I think the non-English-speaking subforums may have an unfair advantage...

That's a nice idea, but without a moderator who understands what's being said, I'm afraid it would just be a spam repository.

Default Newbie only ?

One thing for Schwa or anyone doing Forum duties:

It can be ok to have language forums but we (as a community) will loose important/interesting information if there's "forks" for all Official Forums.

But...

Maybe the multilingual REAPER is in the work and it becomes mandatory to have such...

Or maybe get newbie-only-other-than-english forums?

"REAPER Débutant [French newbie]"
"REAPER Novellino [Italian newbie]"
"REAPER Neuling [Deutsch newbie]"

Well, I don't know about our fellow Klingons, but there certainly are quite a few Chinese REAPER users out there. The language barrier usually is a bigger problem to them than to speakers of an Indo-European language. When I lived in China some years ago, I saw many people using custom-localized versions of audio software because they would have struggled with the English version. Actually there is even a localized Chinese REAPER version floating around by now:

Granted, from a business perspective, the Chinese audio software market is far from being mature enough at the time being (99% of the software used in the country is pirated anyway) to be actually attractive for Cockos and the same is true for other developing countries. But I certainly would appreciate to see the REAPER community becoming more internationally diversified in the future.

In this spirit: lojmIt yIpoSmoH!

AAaaaaaaahhhh!!! Although I was doing some polling (and not with the F5 key, schwa ;-) I manage to miss the 1st post in the french sub-forum !!!
... but anyway thanks a lot for that !

I hope he'll confirm the HUGE buzz that is surrounding reaper, here in France, when he'll come back. v3 sounds like a start line for you, here. So, keep on the good work, keep on "improving communication" and ignore the weirdness (I've seen some of them recently.. normal with a growing user base...)

I agree with that. Europe += Turkey!!

Dali,
As I said elsewhere, on the contrary, I think it could only help non-english noobs and that it could only bring new contributions, BRs, FRs to Reaper. Ex: some sound workers I know are very tough... they just don't speak (or "think" they don't speak) english well enough.
I'm quiet sure that the good ideas born in the NESFs will also popup in the main forums if needed. You can count on Mercado_Negro, Gofer,.. (and many others, sorry) for that and, at least, I'll try to do that with the french one, even if I'm a less active user. Wait and see.

... and good bumps for the other countries !!

Everyone accept English is a world language. However, non-native English speakers, we cannot speak/know English to understand you/forum posts/etc. enough.

I could express myself/my problem but i believe there are a lot of user of Reaper could not.

For example, i and my friends translated a CMS to Turkish called Drake. They create local subforums for every language that supports Drake. We wrote both Turkish and English. We just share our knowledge and report bugs. After we translated that bugs to the main bugs forum.

I believe, language subforums increase the usage of Reaper. Also, we/you can help users speak our/your language.

Thanks,

Bahadır

In italian is better use "Novizio" or "Neofita" than the word "Novellino"... at least it will sound less childish :P (in the end they means the same)

Schwa, for your translation, the good translation would be:
"Forum pour utilisateurs francophone" but i like the idea of Bullshark witch give a little twist and make it catchier "Franco-Forum".

Enjoy!!!!

for me the current french title is clear/fine: I think it's important to mention "REAPER" in it (for google!) but no prob with the other propositions too! Just a minor correction for one of them "Forum pour utilisateurs francophones" just in case...

Nós no Brasil amamos o Reaper. O número de usuários cresce dia a dia. E aqui nós criamos um slogan: "Benvindos ao mundo Reaper!!!"
Um fórum em Português seria muito interessante.

Translating:
We in Brazil love the Reaper. The number of users grows day by day. And here we have created a slogan: "Welcome to the world Reaper!"
A forum in Portuguese would be very interesting.

Best Regards

We were lucky to already have long-time Reaper users and active forum contributors who speak Spanish, German, and French, who could moderate those forums to make sure they don't turn into a spam dump. For Italian and Portuguese we may not be so lucky (yet) ...

Default Sticking my neck out :)

People, I don't understand this need...

As with rock'n roll, the native language of the internet is English. Not necessarily grammatically correct English, but some type of unifying "lingua franca" English nonetheless. Why build again the "Tower of Babel" when we are on the way to global language unification?

If there was a Swedish forum I would not use it, and I suggest not introducing one; there's no real need.

My main problem now... how do I filter out those different language fora so they don't show up in the list of "New Posts" for me? Frankly, I find them disturbing.

You don´t. I believe we are talking about separated language forums, as already exist with Spanish Forum, so you not need any filter, simply not read that forums.
About the new forums creation, I believe with specific language forums available the people can express with more facility their needs and wishes, can more easely understand the explanations from their friends and from the Cockos technicians and also can interact more friendly with other people.
All this factors are positive, because the final goal of all these forums (turn Reaper ever better) will be gained.
Do is possible to interact in English language? Yes, without doubt, but so much better if we can make this in our proper language.
Only my .2 cents.
Best regards.

Sure, currently we only have only 3 non-English forums, but there are like 5000+ languages in the world
