don't know how much I should say, realizing now ... oh krap... that is still in beta I guess...

richie, I did notice your mention of some probs with the installer, and me being super doubtful about the recent Neb installers... I personally put did it on my virtual 64 bit machine and then copied out the dll's.. and backed up the previous betas and put in the .655... which seem to be working well...

so I'd expect they should be released quite soon..

I do wonder why they don't just put for download the various .dll and .xml files and let users bypass the installer... ya know???

Anyway sammydix... just hang in a little more I'll be you'll have them. They do seem to be a bit faster... I have not had stability issues with any of the dll's, past or present.

Faster loading, better use of resources, I am able to use more instances. I don't thrash people unless it's in a mosh pit, by the way.... But the GUI and functionality are the same, for now. I actually don't mind the GUI though.

I always have super meticulous backups, so after my issues with the beta installers, I was only 1o minutes from a full working set of all of my Nebuals, so no worries. But I think that they don't make the dll's available because that would leave many more issues for them to offer support for. Nebula works fine out of the box, but can be enhanced incredibly if the user decides to take that up. But then the forum members jump into the "help" role, not always Acustica. I understand why they want to officially support an installer method.

yeah, i was just throwing out examples, the better resources alone is a biggie. i haven't even seen Neb's original skin in over a year, but the 'same functionality' surprised me. i would have thought that to be a 'must'.

Nebula is not like a standard VST. I have spoken with many developers, and without getting too in depth, the GUI is what it is and would be different if it were possible. The next best thing are the various Aqua plugins, which use the same technology but with slightly more specific GUI's. Acustica is working on some pretty radical stuff though, like the Trinity EQ, a multi-band Aqua EQ that will basically work like multiple instances of Nebula in one GUI. It will still tax your computer like multiple instances of Nebula, I think. There are a few people developing GUI wrappers for Nebula, and some are pretty cool if you can get them set up.

I sure look forward with hope for that multi EQ thing... I did see some mention about an event like that from Analog in the box [If I recall]

One of the features of the newer versions of Neb is that it allows for those very reduced instances of the Init window... so that it only shows the name of the loaded preset...

Apparently that was at the request of a user on the AA forums, and I did make a couple [3] skins for him...

I also don't find the GUI all that ugly... hahaha well with a little massaging anyway...
Personally, I do prefer to see the full Init window and to be able to move through the various settings it includes.

fyi, I have asked Giancarlo if he can alter it like so:

As it is now, the Init window show up to 6 of the possible 8 parameter controls... right? Plus the In and Out gains.
and you can tweak the param's right there in that window... or at least read out the values for what the tweaks are.
So IF it could show all the 8 possible param's, it would let a skin not have to use either the mini lcd display [as in the vintage skin or as in that last mini black skin of mine] or the other way of showing param values, as in the skins with knobs.
I did ask if the gains in and out could also be tweaked right in the Init, but he said that cannot be done.
He did say it will likely someday be able to show all the 8 param's however.

That would let us make skins that would be considerable more compact.

i immediately subscribed to the thread once i discovered it.

quick unrelated question: i opened Nat3 to "recategorize" my programs list. that is, everthing CAB related under the CAB category, then by creator, etc.; then so on with categories (makes it quicker for me to create separate neb progs). but somehow i screwed up (and have done this just fine many times before), and now some existing programs don't show up at all in Nebula--tho the prog and vector files are present. is there a way to "reset list" or something that you know of?

though I really understand your wish to change how presets get categorized, I have never done that with NAT...

So, sorry I don't have that answer...

I have been thinking I might be able to get a little better results with the xml dictionary file but have not tried that yet.

do you use Nebula Setup? [you must, right?]

i've done it a few times before and it worked like a charm, but dunno what happened this time around. i usually update the categories once in a while when i add new progs and removed progs that i don't use so much. today was 'update' day since i have some new skins to use. but now my program list is kablooey--some progs show, others don't. Nebsetups shows me the same messed up list even when i "reload Acqua". i've already uninstalled reinstalled--no go. i'll figure it out.

only thought I have is to toss that temp folder in the preposity and let it get rebuilt... also check that scanboot in the xml files is set to 1 and not to 0...

0 makes it load stuff faster but also makes it NOT rescan the presets

i've done the 'temp' 4 or 5 times earlier, but that didn't help.
i know where the scanboot is, but i don't see where you change 1 or 0.

oh right sorry for that confusion

ok really there are a couple

the one I was first thinking about will be in the xml that matches a give dll... like so:

<SCANBOOT> 0 </SCANBOOT>

Nebula Setup seem to set that the 0, so the setup does NOT look at all the presets again... it only looks at what you told it to use in the Nebula Setup ...
If you set that 0 to 1, then it DOES look each time.

the other 'scanboot' will be the ~scanboot.xml file that is in the prepository...

to be safest, just move that out to some other temp folder and let it get rebuilt... it will take a bit of time ...
to get to fill up, you can't use a Nebula Setup dll, rather use the unaltered Nebula Reverb.dll [whatever yours is named]

It should look at everything you have and rebuilt that file.

thx Hopi. but i did find it (and it's on the MAST page also). i changed everything to "1", but it didn't help.
what DID do it was had to delete all the progs and vects and place the originals back in. now it reads like normal.

whew!!!

even though i was successful before, i'll most likely NEVER trust myself with the Nat3 list again. that was a 5 hour scare.

good idea I'll look into that as soon as I solve my latest problem...

came in today and found two multi TB HD's saying they were empty...

wtf???

no infections found, but

I can tell from some software that the files are still there, so I'm having to use partition recovery soft's to deal with this...

and it is slow cuz the drives are both huge... wish me luck and good fortune cuz the files on these are critical...

If I get them back I'll buy two more HD's just to bak up these two... sh+t this gets expensive!

I had that happen once and found out that it had to do with the partition id's. If you are comfortable with Linux, use a live CD and boot into that and use linux to see and recover the data. It's super easy, I can walk you through it if you need.

thanks Richie for the offer and if this don't work I may take you up on that...

I am hoping that this software, when it's done, will actually give me back the drives just as they were...

I don't think it is just basic ID of the drives, cuz they show up as there, with their correct names, etc. It is the MFT or whatever it is called that seems gone... you know, the 'librarian' that know what and where the files and their parts and places are on the disc.

In my experience, if the MFT table is wonky (or partition table, or anything else Windows can't see anymore), the live Windows won't see it either. All of my non-audio computers are always dual boot machines for this reason (and I like to do my non-audio stuff on Linux anyway). Any time I have a Windows issue I can boot into Linux and see most things that appear to be broken or missing while viewing from the booted Windows. If I don't have a linux distro installed, then the next option is a live CD (which I also have any time I am trying to help someone else on their machine). If I have files that are "missing", I can 99% of the time recover them easily from linux. If the MFT or partition id's are broken, I can rebuild that from linux too. If I can't see the files from Linux, they are usually actually gone...(gulp).
So if whatever software you use say it is "rebuilt", just remember that it was rebuilt within the same OS structure that said it was broken (unless it is a CD that is operating in a boot cycle, independent of the OS).
Ooops, that was a wordy way of saying "No, a a Live windows probably will not do just as well?"....lol

Default R U REDD [d] ?

Not for the faint of heart nor the screen size challenged!

Sorry but the reaper stash has some size limits for files so ya gotta get all six rar parts and un unpack it.
I'm a bit shocked myself to see the size it came to but consider it holds 120 png files for the meter needles and 2 fairly big png stacks for the two knobs. But, ...the knobs have 256 frames so they tweak with mousewheels very minutely.

Now I warn you ahead of time, this is Vintage equipment and does NOT take kindly to being heavily overloaded. Hot circuits can cause fires ...so Please ..be CAREFUL!

everything looks like something else these days... what can I tell ya? it just is what it is.

to babiuk... you often mention 'your theme' in some conversations.

I'd like to get a look at it. see your pm and perhaps you can send it. I won't share it.

Look, here's the Ableton Live logo:

It's even trademarked.

Actually, yours look more like the old rounded stripes, also trademarked:

But perhaps they'll let it slide... considering your three stripes also look like the Adidas logo.

they are not stripes or logos

they are vent holes in the sheet metal for air circulation

and as they say in New York, "F*ck 'em if they can't take a joke"

trade marks only apply to specific products... like Live or shoes, or whatever.

And besides... if 'they' want a royalty share of my profits, they can have it.... since it's in minus numbers... hahaha

Default The REDDER the better!

Hopi you've done it again

As for Ableton Live, I could be wrong but it seems most suited to unqualified narcissists with rectangle glasses who live in an apartment and own more than one cat.

Hey I like the new REDD Thanks Hopi

Should just saturate the REDD slots with bright red; it IS called REDD you know

On 1024 x 768 screen (which was considered minimum for 12 years now) it looks fine in Reaper and plenty of room around it. I won't discourage you though.

You're one of three people in the world who can make sense of Nebula skins, let alone they're freaking beautiful works of art.

Thank you Hopi,
the small one (REDD [e]), I prefer, too.
Numbers, size, peak-signal, all welcome.
Extraordinary. Nice. Thank you.
