Hi everyone,
I hope you had a nice week so far. Just recorded a piano student's audition tape.
She chose Maurice Ravel's "Piano Concerto" and Manuel María Ponce's "Balada Mexicana". So I decided to upload the shorter one.
I used four microphones to pick up the sound of a huge but rather shabby Steinway grand piano. I read through the whole
SOS article about recording piano and chose Al Schmitt's go-to technique.
2x Line Audio CM3 as a spaced pair above the hammers
2x Rode NT5 as a coincident pair in line of the lid
And here is the result:

Please tell me what you think about it and what you would have done differently - bearing in mind that it is a classical recording, no pop or jazz.
