Playback delay
Hey friends:
After pressing the playback button on my orchestral template, nothing happens for the first 4 seconds. I'm trying to trouble shoot what might cause this, any thoughts / ideas are welcome.
By contrast, a blank session of Reaper starts immediately.
More information:
- the orchestral template and the blank session are loaded simultaneously, I don't think it's a RAM / CPU issue.
- My orchestration template is pretty big, but most of the VSTs are offline.
Thanks!

I have experienced problems with various "non-final-release" third-party plugins causing Reaper do strange things (such as for ex. crashing render, crashing playback, crashing recording etc..), as far as I remember disabling plugin did no help, only completely removing it from project/session,
perhaps you might have put some less reaper-friendly plugins there?

Could be ... it's the most logical explanation. The funny thing is that with the exact same project, everything was fine until quite recently. Oh well, not the first time I said "but yesterday everything was still fine!".
The prime suspect of the trouble is Play, there are a few dozen instances of Play. Recently I installed a beta version, maybe there are conflicting versions.

Peter, does "Play" have a way to purge the samples? By that I mean to completely unload the samples. Then as you play the midi, it can reload the samples as they are used/played. I ask because Kontakt does this and it's a huge advantage.
Also I'm sure "Play" has DFD, "Direct From Disk"?
I do know when I get a lot of Kontakt instances, it slows things down in Reaper. Also controllers, CC1, CC11, CC7, etc., if they get built up, that can really make things unstable.
Just some thoughts.

Mystery solved ... it's probably a bug in the beta 5.1 version of Play.
I reinstalled 5.0.4, and everything's fine again.
I'm an EW beta tester, this could well be related to my DAW running on an ageing computer. I reported back to them.

Brave man! I baled on Play several versions back because of instability.
Sad to see what could be such a great engine still struggling.

Well, it's a beta version ... who knows what is going on. I don't know if I am the only person experiencing issues. That's why they do beta testing ...
I've had Play for many years, and rarely ever had issues. Most of them are iLok related, which is not EW's responsibility.
