Can anyone explain the changes of this ? I think the shift+ click time selection to left area still changes the right edge time selection.

Maybe I'm not using the right preference settings combination.

Yeah the behavior changed a bit but it's still not really what I think most would expect based on how selections in general work in most applications (not most DAWs, most applications period...)
I think the idea is to have the time selection swing around a central point like it does in a text editor for example, either that or always extend the current time selection to the where you click. The way it works now where the entire selection changes size and location isn't what I would expect at least.

I'm late to this party but correct me if I've got the wrong idea..
If you want to keep the right side the same but extend the left side of the time selection you can click anywhere on the left of the time selection with shift held BUT don't click and let go, click and drag a little and it works
This gives us both options then
if I understand you correctly..

Another glitch with rc3 and shift+click (the previous one reported seems fixed):
in the attached screencap, I select the first item, then by mistake shift+click on the third item volume line, then shift+click properly the item.
The middle item is not selected and time selection is created. By design?
Weird if so...
Thanks,
Mario

hey mabian... in your gif I notice that your media items have an interesting semi 3D look and nice border to them... what does that?

It's a background image White Tie gave me when we were discussing why items don't get the very same color assigned to them... that was before tint strength was introduced.

That's pretty good, is it new? haha how have I missed that before?
You can't contract the left side instantly of course without starting outside the selection first, but otherwise it's not too shabby.

I've been using the "shift + click n drag time selection left edge" for sometime now. While I'm glad that it exist, I hope it wouldn't be the reason for not implementing consistent behaviours for expanding time selection. From time to time, I still do the mistake of clicking instead of click n drag, because it works correctly, but only on the right edge.
It's the consistency of the shift+click time selection (right vs left) that throws me off. Clicking right gives a logical result, but clicking left doesn't seem to have a logical behaviour. Making both sides consistent would make it more anticipative for users, and require less "note to self, time selection + click left to expand doesn't work the same as right" which in a long run would save alot of users time and make the learning curve easier too.
