Ableton LIVE and REAPER REWIRE and VST

Hi I have started exploring rewiring Ableton(slave)/REAPER(Master) and I have managed to get the two apps to play together. However I have a few tracks in the Ableton Live project using midi and VST instruments and I am informed on starting up the Ableton project that the VST instruments are not available? Is this a limitation? What are my options?

ya, no vst's in ableton when it's a rewire salve - it's lame
