Default a way to prevent monitoring to review performances but have it on certain trks?

I am trying to find a configuration to do the following thing:

Midi or Guitar and direct in tracks can be "live" at all time, in other words, any time I arm the track, I monitor the track.

Microphone tracks only monitor when recording

This would make it easy for someone to record a vocal track and then we hear it over the speakers instead of only listening on headphone and would reduce noise.

You should be able to do this with the mic track record monitor button set to Auto - it will let the mic through only when the mic track is recording. Set the other instruments record monitoring button to On, so they come through whenever armed.

I don't think you'll get good results this way if the speakers are in the same room as the mic - -
1) the speaker will bleed the monitor mix into the mic, putting stuff in to the vocal track that doesn't belong there. This can make it very difficult to later edit the mic track later. (Boosts, cuts, mutes on the vocal track will add to, or subtract from, the overall mix.) It also can cause 'flamming', where a comb filtering effect is caused by the mixing of the other tracks with the slightly delayed monitor mix the mic picked up.
2) it makes it possible for feedback to occur

The trick for doing the live monitor vocal tracking is to monitor in mono with one speaker opposite polarity and the mic right at the null point. The singer's head will be out of the exact null point and they'll hear the monitors.

You can assign mutes to keyboard shortcuts to control monitor channels. Assign a mute button to toggle for each monitor channel (control room mains to headphone channels). You can quickly flip them on/off as needed from your computer keyboard or tablet or whatever.

I dont necessarily want to hear it during recording, just making it easy to hear takes we just did over the speakers

An interesting idea, but I don't see how it helps here. It's still going to leave the mic live and coming through the speakers on playback.

Auto monitor mode should just do it, though I guess I've never tried.

Yea, I wasn't 100% sure what Jason needed.

Make a subgroup for the live mic inputs (that still feeds into your system like you want) and assign a mute for that to the keyboard. Just reach for a key to toggle it.
