Default Hot Players - Jalapeno

I wrote this back in 2011 specifically to let the guitar player in my band and a keyboard friend of mine cut loose a little bit. Somehow I've been lucky enough to have world class musicians who are happy to add their thoughts to my backing tracks.

This project was so old it had DX plugins from a 32 bit world, and I needed a 30+ track project to try my new Ryzen 3700X DAW out on. I removed all the plugins and stripped the project down to the bare tracks. Then mixed it using all new plugins, a better grand piano than the original and even a better sounding drum kit using newer samples I've acquired for Superior.

I'm playing 5-String OLP Stingray bass, Superior Drummer 2 from my V-Drums, and sampled grand piano. PolyMod (Larry Benigno) is playing Fender Rhodes and synthesizers (all real BTW), and Joey Larsen (RIP) was playing the Fender Stratocoustic at the beginning and Gibson SG guitar on the solos.

It's titled Jalapeno for the hot playing.

Very nice! You can tell there's a lot of talent there. Not so much on the drums but...

Nice job!

Mm jalapenos. Crack team of players you have there. Sync lead around 3 minute mark is particularly tasty.

Thanks Jeff! As the engineer, I kept asking that drummer to simplify his parts, but he just ignored me, and played that crap.

Tanks mon! My friend Larry is a smoking hot keyboard player. I've never met him in person and he lives 1500 miles from my place. One time I posted a song where I did a synthesizer solo, and he posted that he would like to take a shot at it. I was not expecting at all the track I got back from him. That was 22 years ago and he still joins me on some projects today. He's got a room full of real synths and other classic keyboards on three tiered racks.

His SG was in fact one of the very cool ones with a factory installed Bigsby tailpiece.

By mid-piece, I was saying to myself, "this guy is channeling Donald Fagen". It has that urban-hip groove & tasty harmonies.

Thanks gandsnut! Fagen is one of my biggest influences as a composer. Zappa too.
