Thanks! I think this should be under 'Right click > Show' because once it is hidden there is no way of making it re-appear except for going to the action list (or assigning a shortcut to it).

Thanks, much better now! But the 'Auto play' and 'Start on bar' buttons are missing. I think for those of us who don't use the MX toolbar or who just want to have the buttons near the transport there should be an option to show them there.
Maybe something like this?
And btw, regarding MX you might want to fix this issue. Probably an oversight? (just mentioning here in case you have missed my thread)

+1 for all above.
Now when we have such a useful toolbar for MX, some API would be useful too!

Just wondering, could we have UNDO for Media explorer edits. Sometimes I delete file by mistake, and wish there was undo. Also renaming files would benefit from undo. Maybe adding files to track could have undo too, especially if multiple items are added.
Otherwise, thnx for this, much welcome for large files:

Yeah, the good news is that you can use PCM_Source_BuildPeaks() as normal, but if you call it with the mode as 1 ("run") less often, the peaks will still get built by the background thread at full speed. So you can request a peaks building, then periodically check in on it to see how it is proceeding.
and if you use PCM_Source_BuildPeaks() on multiple sources, they will get built simultaneously.
(but let us know how it works or if you see any regressions!)

Item Processing: Move items to source preferred position (BWF start offset) seems to be broken in this release. I just did a test.
Went back to Reaper 642 Downloaded from the home page, and it works fine.
I'm using the same files for the test as well.
Also it would really be beneficial to add this action Insert and "Move items to source preferred position (BWF start offset)" to media explorer somehow?
Edit: This bug started in release reaper642+dev1120_x64-install

When dragging in media from the Media Explorer, can there be a behaviour (modifier, timer) where the media is inserted on a new track at the mouse cursor?
Would be so clean to drag in media, and while dragging hold Ctrl (or whatever) and boop a new track appears temporarily. If you drop it on the temporary new track, it stays. If not, or you let go of the modifier, you get the usual behaviour.
It's a little thing, but it really disrupts the workflow having to create new tracks every time you want to drag something in.

I have tested it out and it works as you described. I can call PCM_Source_BuildPeaks(src, 1) less often but the peaks still get built at the same rate. This has improved the responsiveness of my script since I don't have to call it as often, thanks!

Also when dragging in media, can there be a modifier to drag it in "without snap"?
ie,
Is just a vibe killer.

Now every time I unfreeze a track I have to rebuild peaks for that specific track otherwise the items come up empty.

Regarding the Media Item Properties window: does it need to be a modal window? Would be nice if the Media Item Properties window could remain open. If no media item was selected, the window would simply be blank until the next media item was selected, or the user closed the window.
Bonus points if there was an option to show media item properties docked in the Media Explorer window under the waveform display.

The media explorer's media properties window (same thing as the media item source properties window, after the media has been imported) does need to be modal. Different types of media can have completely different windows with different settings, etc. Plus the media has to actually be loaded, rather than just scanned, to open the window, so it's best if it's only done on demand.

Here's a test I did: I have the latest dev release installed (reaper642+dev1122_x64) Windows.
1. Download, unzip the BWFTest, and open the project file, right click on the item were it is, then choose Item Processing: Move items to source preferred position (BWF start offset). It comes up with an error messagebox.
2. Close out of Reaper
3.Install the Released version of Reaper 6.42, and repeat the steps above. Then the Item moves to the right place with no errors.

And what about allow to place MX toolbar right of the volume slider?

I found what seems to be a bug in Media Explorer.
If you use the following actions after you make a selection in the preview area, the playback cursor jumps to an unintended playback position.
- Preview: Fast forward a little bit (40034)
- Preview: Rewind a little bit (40033)
I was able to reproduce this behavior on Mac OS 10.10 and 10.14.

+1! That would be a gamechanging feature! But I would prefer the implementation without mouse modifier discussed here.

I've been trying to reproduce this with a simple project and I can't. I even stripped down the project where this is happening to only one track and saved it with a different name and it happens there but I took a look inside the media file folder of the project and there's only one reappeak so apparently it's not showing the peaks because they don't exist. Really strange.
I'll keep an eye on it and report back if I find a pattern.

For sound editors, it would be very helpful to show in the media explorer independent columns for :
- track names
- take
- tape
- circled
- wild track
- notes
- start TC
- end TC
- TC frame rate
We have all those informations in the description part of the Media Properties and can for now show only if I am correct :
- scene
- channels number
- length

You can add custom columns to the media explorer. Right click the header row and choose "add user column", then add for example "IXML:CIRCLED".

I was just in that dialog and did not understand this. I thought it is totally custom collumn.
It might be worth to make it clearer that you can use metadata that are already suported by schemes and show them in MX.
And also maybe to specify how one can construct the key and that the description is a displayed collumn name (there is also a collumn with "description" name!).
And instead of the text to see "The main project render metadata", put a button to open that right away.

Thanks Schwa, I could make it for some metadata, but what would be used for coding the Track names ? I tested "IXML:TRK1" or "IXML:TRK" but no result.

I noticed a bug with channel-mapper downmixer, it is not possible to delete a routing in the matrix. We must clear then add the routing to use our configuration. I am using OSX Monterey and Big Sur / Reaper M1 installer.

Thank you developers for all the improvements. Since razor edits is being worked on in this pre release.. I have a request. It will be very useful to have an option where razor edits only allows editing on envelope lanes . This will be so useful when time stretching or expanding multiple envelopes. Currently when I try to do that the media items are also getting stretched or compressed

Yes!
–Again, if the embedded toolbar height could expand, the use-case for displaying a different (narrow) instance of it to show more/all buttons could be less frequent (and probably less confusing to users).

Can every track get its independent media explorer? Then Reaper would have in effect a "clip looper" like in Ableton Live or Bitwig (session view). A different visual presentation of those "media explorers per track" would finish this feature.

Cool idea! I searched for something like this a year ago and forced to stay with Battery. But it impossible to playing something while moving through the project markers and hitting play/stop.
Would be cool to have MX instances with different settings on a tracks, so they could be fx processed and follow track automation, but play/stop will independed into each MX instance.

By the way, you inspired me to writing a script.
Search "Exclude tracks or envelopes from razor area depending on mouse placement" on Reapack.

Wow ! Thank you very much. But it doesn't seem to work. If I select a bunch of track and stretch the envelopes its also stretching the media items. Is this a toggle script ? I can't seem to get my head around this. Can you pls explain ?

This script works as a step before editing.
- At first select an area with tracks and envelopes in it.
- Then place your mouse on what you want to edit. In your case it's envelope area.
- Run my script (RE on tracks will removed).
- Do editing.
So, it's sense to map my script with a shortcut or with mouse click on razor area, as example.
