One of my oldest requests.
The tracker system is no good though for this type of thing.

Cheers

Absolutely right Pipe. ++1

This would give us the power to go straight to product from Reaper - that would be extremely powerful.

This would be so useful! I've contacted DCA to see what options are available. We'll see what they say.

I've been getting some great sounding mastering out of Reaper, and I'd REALLY rather not go into Wavelab or Sonic and muck it up.

It looks like a DDP spec license is free, so maybe this would fit into the Reap business model?

Justin's already had and read the spec last year - he didn't like the conditions so don't get too excited. It would be a dream if the team would do this but as they never finished the CUE / WAV stuff I'm assuming that this is also way down on the list of importance.

Cheers

DCA makes their own software which creates a DDP and PQ log from a wave file with markers. I'm planning to test it shortly. It's a LOT of $$$, though. The good news is that it doesn't have an audio engine; it only does a format translation, so no need to mess up that good 64 bit Reap sound with some other audio engine.

Too bad about DCA's license terms.

Wonder why ?

The cheapest way of making a DDP for audio is on a mac (you need osx):
Waveeditor - $79.- (this has been reduced recently from $250 - amazing)

There's also
Gear Pro Mastering
at $290.- which also does DDP DVD

Still - I assume its a hell of a job to put this into Reaper.

Cheers

I quote from the waveeditor site:

"Why pay 3-5 times the cost of Wave Editor JUST for the ability to export DDP? We believe that every musician and engineer, from hobbyist to professional, should be able to afford top quality mastering tools. So, take your prized possessions out of hock and get Wave Editor."

yes indeed.

Sending a project to the plant for duplication and being able to export to DDP would be super cool.

Hi Guys,

While I was looking for the same functionality in reaper or in another free program i stumbled onto this:

http://ddp.andreasruge.de/cue2ddp.html

I didn't try it yet, but it's supposed to be able to convert the cue/bin files you can export in reaper to DDP.

I will try it out on my next project and let you know if it's working for me.

Would having more flexibility with the cue markers help this? That's what i'd like to see, an editor that shows cue markers for the selected item and allows you to rename and move them.

Yes, without DDP, even this would be better than nothing.

To improve exporting to CUE/BIN, and as Reaper can already use markers for CD tracks (with option to include only #-prefixed markers), I suggest this simple functionality:

- use # markers for INDEX 01, like it is already
- use, let's say, $ prefixed markers for INDEX 00 (pregap)
- parse # markers for possible ISRC and CDTEXT, for example:
#3|ISRC=ABCDEFG0123|TITLE=Third song
I think this is not very hard to implement?

This would be a great idea (except for me who doesn't know how to get the "|" typed (: ), if the render would actually work. I've had nothing but problems (even severe problems with audiobook customers), because the index points are always displaced! Now who else has this problem? And what have I set up that I doesn't work?
"Autorender" doesn't work for me at all btw.

I am prepared to develop DDP export filter (am also a professional developer).
I have read that DDP license agreement and I don't find anything problematic, so I will probably sign the agreement to receive the specs. Is anything suspicious there? Some of you said that Justin didn't agree with the terms. So I also don't want to have legal problems.
What do you think?

What do we think? I think that's extremely generous, and absolutely amazing.

DDP export would be a *fantastic* thing to have in Reaper. Straight out of the mix to the pressing plant.

Wow. Thank you sir!

Some of us still do CDs (and strangely, this is working out for me much better than downloads...) and this would be of great benefit.

DDP is the only format you can guarantee that your work will be correctly represented. I've seen pressing plants rip audio cd-rs at high speed as the 'masters'. Ohhhhhhh. Please no. DDP every time.

Yes, DDP support in Reaper is a must.
But if Justin didn't agree with the DCA Inc. terms, he has reasons, and there is probably something problematic in those terms. As I personally don't find any problems there, maybe I just don't see them, so I will be thankful, if anybody warns me about possible legal problems that I may encounter.
The spec is free to use, and there are no royalties to pay to DCA. Please correct me if I am wrong. I don't want to pay big money to them, or being sued because of something that I missed.

I would love to see DDP support, I would even be willing to pay a little more for the addition. I've just completely switched to Reaper for all of my mastering work, and love the idea of having everything I need built right into Reaper. Would make an already great DAW even more complete.

Check the "REAPER Pre-Release Discussion" forum. Hint: sticky.
