GRAY MATTER V4 Theme
Hi everyone, I'm glad to finally release the first version of this new V4 theme I've been working on for month.
I'm proud of it, so I hope it'll be useful to some of you.
Here's the download page (updated 08-30-2011) :
GrayMatter theme pack
* theme file : GrayMatter_beta3 & GrayMatter_Dark_beta3
* instructions : english / français
* replacement font (for XP or Mac)
* Basic toolbar
* Alternate theme files : solo, mute, red recarm buttons (see readme.txt)
>direct download<
GRAY MATTER
GRAY MATTER DARK
ICONS :
I've prepared a lot but some obvious ones are still missing so there will be updates.
I'd be glad to take requests/ideas for more icons !
LAYOUTS :
There's a lot of them too so be sure to try them all to find what you like :
* global options in Mixer : 1) pan on top - 2) pan knobs/faders
* meter width in Mixer : default/large
* panel width in Mixer : sidebar/default/small/smaller
(the small and smaller extend their controls in big vertical mixers).
* colored faders in Mixer : black, blue, green, red.
* Vertical meters in tcp.
* separators (Mixer & tcp) : be sure to create a custom action to set both tcp and mcp as separators simultaneously.
* lock (Mixer & tcp) : to lock volume and pan only (other controls available).

TRANSPORT :
Normal or small sized, the transport can fit in a neat little box (floating or docked).

Appearance settings :

Problems may arise due to the the font I selected for the Vol/Pan label category : Calibri" (8) on Windows Seven (alternate font provided in the pack).
If you don't have it, it still looks ok with these classic ones :
* Comic Sans MS (7)
* Arial (8)
* Arial Black (7)
Update :
06-19-2011 : beta 3 (Mixer options : Pan Faders - Pan on Top, TCP color strip layouts, new mute/solo buttons)
05-24-2011 : beta 2 (MCP small meter, TCP record input + input fx revealed only when rec armed, TCP width control only for stereo pan and dual pan modes)
05-20-2011 : beta 1 (TCP vertical meters, transport centered layouts, more icons)
04-25-2011 : alpha 2 (pan faders for TCP, separator as folder shows mute/solo controls, more toolbar icons...)
04-24-2011 : the theme pack contains a replacement font for XP or Mac (thanks to Hopi !).
All comments and suggestions are welcome !

It's "Calibri" (8) on Windows Seven used for the Vol/Pan label font category.
I've just tested with other fonts, and it looks ok with these classic ones :
* Comic Sans MS (7)
* Arial (8)
* Arial Black (7)

Love this theme! Like others, this is easy on the eyes. And the toolbar icons are
clean / readable!!!
If I could change one thing - I would ask that the track metering stand out similar
(if not more) to the effect you have in the master channel.
I changed the metering colors in preferences, but they show lighter than I want.
I want the meters to jump out.
- maybe a layout choice?

I suppose that is all good enough then... but wonder why not just package the font file with the theme? It's just a ttf font right?
If you need a mac version I can likely do a conversion of it

I'm afraid there can be only one vu file alowed by Walter, so an alternate meter layout isn't possible.
The meters are semi-transparent to be able to remain interlaced while still having 4 solid colors (gray -18 white -6 orange 0 red).
So when you edit the colors in the theme editor, you don't change much, you have to edit the mcp_vu.png file.
Btw, take anything, change what you want and upload, I have no pb with that of course.

Thanks, I just didn't think of this possibility
Do you think it's ok to upload a font in the stash ?

Thank you for the offer and how to possibly do that... But I have never created / or edited a
theme at the Walter level. I wish I could, but I don't know where to start. Sorry I have to
expose my ignorance here.

Nice looking but the wave file items are Waaay to light and would be difficult to see what is selected for stuff like takes and comps.

That's quite a bit of TCP magic when it resizes.
It'll take me time to get used to the button images. Having a good time here already as it's very easy on the eyes.
Wow. Lots of good work in this. Thanks for sharing. It'll take a lot of time to explore this fully.

Agree about the TCP resizing, awesome. I love the tcp meters with the round edges. If you can only have one meter, how do I choose that one? oh, it is default, nice haha

Very nice theme! I love V4 default theme and stayed with it after trying different ones, but this one is really nice.
Maybe, I missed something, but I haven't seen the "special-separator" track layout before, and I like it.

Pure genius
Could you include yore toolbar it looks well thought out ..
Thanks Jed
Note........
I'm finding having the sends/master disabled and mutes in the tcp the same color a little disorientating.

fantastic! I love it. A theme like this doesn't make me focus on one thing or one section... which is good - well done!

Bloody me! This stuff is good. A little bit of Podium spice maybe. Probably not...
Anyway I feel this 'Reaper 4' thing's gonna be epidemic. It's already like: nuclear Reaction, Grey and Dark Matter... what else Singularity.
Walter should be proud!

Thanx @Bernstraw!!
Appreciate and indeed, can you please include your Toolbar in because it really looks well thought of and would like to give it a try.
I think there must be a way that if a Theme dev create a theme, Reaper should be able to exactly when we add that Theme in Reaper, to exactly show as the Dev did it and how it looks in the screenshot instead of always having to go and change things in Preferences under Media etc... I don't know if this is possible for Dev's to enable something in Reaper so reaper can always keep whatever Theme you load with its Tweaks from Dev.
Thanx again for this nice Theme @Bernstraw
Cheers

Well I found this a bit "monotone" at first glance, but after downloading it and using it, I have to say it's one of the best. Put a nice custom colour on the tracks and it just pops. Love the divider tracks. I'm thinking this'll be my default. Great work.

There's clearly a TON of work gone into this creation and I HAD to download it and give it a shot. There's bound to be some WALTER inspiration in your code that I can learn from.
Awesome work Bernstraw.

Altogether though truly great.....
