Default Way to configure Take Name?

Hey all,

my track is named "CSS 1st Violins", but the take is named719-CSS 1st Violins-Recorded MIDI". Is there a way to customize this?

There are actions for this, one of them being:

Xenakios/SWS: Rename selected takes (deprecated)...

Missunderstanding, I'm aware of renaming, but I wanted to know if it's possible to give recorded items a naming scheme. Like: item gets track name + date, etc...

Since your example shows a "recorded" file this may work...

Unfortunately this only works with audio and not MIDI takes... I wish the dialog would work for both.

A quick test shows you are correct.

I see why....

By default all MIDI is stored as MIDI data directly in the project file so there is "sort of" no file to name. However, if you change that option to record actual .MID files instead of embedding in the project file, then the naming wildcards in that same setting work.

Have you tried this one? I've only used it to number the midi items.

Xenakios/SWS: Auto-rename selected takes...

Oh, very nice find Tod! That's exactly what I was looking for. It introduces an some additional steps (selecting items, triggering shortcut), but I can combine that into an action. Some functions are burried so deeply into Reaper... :-D

Whats funny, although I have "MIDI Items in project" enabled, I still have .MID files in my project folder.
