Default static and ducking audio

I have the Reaper demo downloaded and am testing it out. At first, during playback I was getting random static/hiss that would last a few seconds and then go away. This would happen every so often at completely random times. Sometimes not even during playback. After an upgrade (which basically re-installs the program) the static no longer happens but during playback random audio tracks will duck in level or will not process through the fx chain causing the signal to be totally dry.

Is this because it is the demo version of Reaper? I know it's supposed to be fully functional but seems like it's a built in issue. If not, any suggestions on what it could be? I have the same issues with 2 different systems. Both Macs - one a laptop using the internal sound card and one a Mac Mini using a Digi 002R as the I/O

Thanks!

Where did you download the installer?
And i've never heard of any "upgrade" installer version.
As far as i know there are always full installers.

There's only one version of REAPER. One complete, solid, full-featured digital audio workstation.

I didn't download an installer, just the current upgrade.

My question was: where?
I've never heard of those same issues on different systems.
So i assume you probably have downloaded a cracked installer and not the original installer from Cockos.

Since it seems to be a Mac issue and nobody has answered until now you perhaps should open a new thread in the Reaper OS X forum.
And provide some details about your OS version, the hardware, the Reaper version, which fx you are using in your chain, etc.

If this was a common problem there would have been answers i assume. (more than hundred reads currently...)

REAPER does not have demo limitations like that. Though what you describe there sounds a lot like one or more 3rd-party plug-ins being in/having reverted to "demo mode", what plug-ins are you using in the project? Or the other way around - does that also happen in a project with no or only REAPER stock plug-ins?

Thanks Ollie! It ended up being plugins. They must be in demo mode although they don't show it anywhere. I removed all plugins and used only the Rea plugins to test Reaper on my system and it works great. Time to purchase the license! Thanks again for your help.

iZotope plugins do that. Some others, too, that I can't recall off the top of my head.
