M-Audio FastTrack Pro - No Vista x64 Drivers on the included disk, but it works like a charm with the downloadable Vista X64 drivers. No Windows 7 Drivers/support yet - you can't even fake it out with the Vista Drivers (like you can with just about everything else). It checks the OS version before install, and will not proceed under Windows 7.

Did you try to run the installer in compatibility mode?

Not yet - I'm still running build 7000 at this time (Been too busy to rebuild my gaming machine - but the Toshiba Laptop we're using as a dedicated music workstation has Vista x64, so that hasn't been an issue.

M-Audio Delta 1010LT works great with Reaperx32 on a Vistax64 Ultimate using M-Audio ASIO. However, it will not work with Vista Media Center, so I've ordered a set of A/B switches (3) to set the 5.1 speakers to run off the on-board sound. I think the great quality of the M-Audio card is worth the extra $90 for the switches and cables. Maybe sometime in the future Micro$oft will make media center compatible with M-Audio cards (when pigs fly?).

Default Behringer UCA202

It was mentioned a few times, but I wanna add a few more things. Works nicely with Behringer's ASIO driver (unless you're unlucky with some odd HW incompatibility), if it spikes, just try bigger buffers. I run it with 7ms/4ms latencies, great.

Pros:
* Price... here it's ~34EUR, it's even less (in USD) in other countries.
* It's extremely portable.
* S/PDIF, headphones output, monitor switch...

Cons:
* Only USB 1.1, 48kHz/16bit (they SHOULD make USB2 with 96kHz/24bit)
* While the stereo crosstalk is minimal, there is big crosstalk from output to input (even if you have only USB plugged in without any other cables) - this means a lot of stuff you playback during your recording will get on the recorded tracks.

Values vary: @1kHz/0dB sine pushed to output you get from -77dB to -65dB (this is my piece). But when you record to previously recorded drums, which is quite normal - you get much worse results. At 200Hz you get back -62 to -56 (better result is claimed by Behringer's support - very helpfull BTW!), finally 100Hz/0dB sine gives you -58 (Behringer) to -46dB (my piece). Some other user got 50dB. I used Reaper with mda Tone Generator VST to measure it.

What can you do with it? Lower your master when you record and amplify headphones elsewhere. Headphones out on the device is strong enough, you can fire it up on mixer, there are ways.

Bottom line: It works! It's cheap! It's only CD quality more or less. Beware that loopback to input (it must be design flaw, as stereo crosstalks are lower ;-)). But great value in overall if you don't want to invest too much money for the start.

Yes, The Tascam US-1641 is an awesome interface!
I have been using mine for a little over a year now and it is proven to be a very reliable piece of equipment. I think it works much better working in conjunction with a good mixing console and routing from the mixer channel direct out to the interface channel input, you have much better EQ and gain control this way.

the US-1641 is a relatively portable unit also.

I see no need for any kind of upgrades any time soon.

Roland Cakewalk UA-1G USB Audio Interface is working like a charm in WinXP SP3 x86 with a low latency (4ms).

Default Echo Layla 3G Works

Hi all,

No problems with the Echo Layla 3G. Any and all buffer sizes work, but ASIO 4 ALL is not compatible with this card, and it's up to date drivers. I know that's not a Reaper issue, but just wanted to include that bit of info for other Echo users.

Other than that, Reaper is fantastic! I bought it awhile back, but have only recently begun to work with it (better late than never). I'll never use Cubase again, and since I customized the GUI to reaBend.r5mkIV, I don't feel like I'm out of my comfort zone.

I only have one gripe: My favorite vst EQ from Nomad Factory just won't work. It's the only plug that I love to use but isn't compatible with Reaper for some strange reason.

Thanks again for a well thought out, stable program.

Why do you need ASIO 4 ALL? The Echo drivers have native ASIO support, which works like a charm.

Does someone have the knowledge to make a list of soundcards that have an x64 ASIO driver for Reaper x64?

Default Mytek 8x192 on OSX

did 8 channels via CoreAudio/Firewire no sweat at 48kHz yesterday; tons of processor left over. I'm hoping I can sort out how to make both of my 8x192s show up for 16 input capture in the next few days...I tried, but all that showed up on ch9-16 was noise, like there was a feedback loop or something. I'm hoping it's operator error or a brainfart when setting it up.

what I'd REALLY like to know is if I can record 16 channels at 192kHz as FLAC or WavePac files without killing my PowerBook...step at a time, I guess.

UPDATE 2Dec09: Firmware Version 4.5.2 remedies the issue noted above for a clean 16 track capture at 44.1kHz

Hi All,

Has anyone succeeded in using the Delta 1010 AND the ProjectMix I/O together (at the same time) to provide 8 analog I/O via the Delta PCI interface AND 10 analog I/O via the Project Mix Firewire interface?

thanks

Default Sound quality and latency of these audio interfaces

Hi,

I thinking about changing my emu 0404 pci soundcard for a fire wire interface. On my list I have the focusrite saffire pro 24, edirol FA-66 and m-audio FP 610. I need a low latency because I want to play guitar with effects and I want to get better a sound quality, so anyone? Which of these is the best product for low latency high quality sound?

Regards

After 10 years on digi 001, I just ditched PT and loaded reaper, using the instructions found at this forum and in 20 minutes or so, I had reaper running perfectly through my digi 001. Had to adjust a bit for latency, but just wanted to report that it works great. Thanks everyone.

Default Firestudio Mobile

I am new to doing this (Hard disk Recording) and wanted somthing that would travel well and double as my home studio. Here is my solution. I do know that I have signal to each channel of the FS Mobile and am looking forward to this weekend when I try it out live. I will continue to tweak and test signal input. I just hope 250gb hard drive is enough for 8 channels at 24bit ~4hrs.

oh, I just bought my license

Creatve ASIO drivers are not good at all.

If you own some Creative audio card listed and supported here:
http://kb.kxproject.lugosoft.com/list.html

you could try the kX Driver! It is fenomenal! At least I am useing it.

Download the driver from the forum here:

I got an Audigy and runs fine in 32Bit with Creative ASIO drivers and ASIO4all, but Creative did not release ASIO drivers for 64bits ....

But daniel-k did it
Audigy runs fine with 64 bit ASIO drivers from him ... Vista 64 as OS

Also Audigy 2ZS Platinum pro , in 32bit and 64 bits ASIO

PreSonus FP10
IBM R50e Laptop
1.2 Gb RAM, 160 Gig 5400 WD HD, 1.6 Pentium M CPU
Windows XP SP3, Wavelab 4.0 for editor

So far, can run up to 24 tracks with ~10 FX running without pegging the CPU. Not a powerhouse laptop but enough to laydown the basic tracks.

Then I move it to my custom built Pentium D 3.0 Ghz, 2 Gig RAM, 640 Gb HD PC to mix down and master.

Kudos to the Reaper team for making a terrific program! Came from Cubase SX 3.

Just got my new Focusrite Liquid Saffire Pro 56 running last night... a new dawn in my i/o world. Getting the interface hardware talking to the PC at all was a big pain due to Firewire incompatibilities, but once I got a card it liked, everything just came right up. And it sounds GREAT! I'm a little surprised how much better playback soundstaging is compared to my previous M-Audio Omni.

SSL Mixpander5 with ALPHALINK AX
you just have to launch Reaper BEFORE the Soundscape Mixer (at least the first time) to be able to activate ASIO drivers in Reaper.
Then lauch the Soundscape Mixer, configure the number of I/O, then go to reaper and choose the number of I/O.

Default Motu HD192

Ive been using Reaper with a Motu HD192 on G5 a without any problems for the last few hours.
I graduated from the Digi 002 (that was working fine with Reaper) as the routing in Pro Tools LE is so stupid I want to get away from that company.

I was so happy with its performance I paid the licence fee after a few short hours of use.

I just want to say that its great to see a company that doesn't seem to want to rip people off and seems to have fair working ethics.

All work fine in XP SP3

I dont know of any interfaces that do not come with their own asio drivers, I do not like asio4all the only thing its good for is if you are using the onboard sound card...

I use the native on-board sound on my motherboard, because I have XP64 and M-Audio does not have XP64 drivers for my Audiophile 192 card (what a waste huh!).

Any way... had to download ASIO4All to fix the latency and it seems to work great. I recorded 2 tracks at once and it sounded great.

Waiting for my Behringer UCA202 to arrive. We'll see how that works.
