Projects take forever to shut down

Whenever I open a different project while I already have one open, it always takes forever to close the first project down. Obviously I can completely close Reaper before opening the new project but it's annoying that something as simple closing a project takes so long. I get that opening a project takes time because it's loading all the plugins but why is it the same when closing? It's not like it needs to save anything before closing. The load windows says "Removing Track 23..." etc. And it does it for every single track.

Are there any preferences I can change to stop this?

Just tried it. Still the same problem.

I had this problem and it seemed to go away after that setting for me. Maybe save a slow saving project to a new name. Open the new "throwaway" project and delete a few vsts at a time and save/close. Repeat and see if delayed closing disappears. Maybe a plugin is conflicting is my only guess.
