Default Saving versions

I tried a search on this topic and could not find much. When I'm mixing in Reaper at times I would like to save a version of a mix and then try some other settings on another version. In Sony Vegas I believe all I had to do was do a save as and rename the project Like Blah version 1, I then could make changes and save it as Blah version 2. If I wanted to go back to version I just found the .veg file named Blah version 1, clicked on it and it brought me back to the original version. Does Reaper work this way as well? I also would like to know how to save audio renders. I render a file and burn it to cd fine. I find the render file in my Reaper project folder and I can tell it is the render by it's size but it is a .bin file that I cannot seem to open or re-import back into Reaper. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

With mine, I just 'save as' and give it a version number and maybe a brief description. I generally just keep a WAV copy of the final mix, but of course, this can also be done at any time during the production as well.

My file looks like this...

It's in the main menu "File"=>"Save new version of project". That does exactly what you want without the "Save as..." dialog. (Result: YourProject_1.RPP, YourProject_2.RPP...) There's also an action for that: "Save new version of project" ID#41895.

Check your Output format in the "Render to file" window.

Use magic option File->Save new version of project. "My project" will be saved as "My_project_1", then "My_project_2", etc

AFAIR .bin is cd image file format (like .iso or .nrg). Some burners can burn cd from .bin. But the best way (imho) is render as .wav, then burn cd. This way you can re-import your track in any program.

Thanks guys I watched the rendering tutorial and that helped a lot, and your posts kind of filled in the blanks. I hope I can take it from there.
