Default smooth scrolling

hi,

is there a way for reaper to scroll smoothly using the scroll wheel on the horizontal and vertical scroll bars of the arrange view?

as it stands, scroll wheel seems to be kind of jumpy. it would be awesome if there was some smoothness. is there?

by overriding the OS behavior if need be.

Which OS and Reaper version are you using?
And what's the mouse model?

In Windows Mouse Settings you can try using different scroll wheel sensitivies: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhpz-H7ZJ0U

For the Logitech G500 mouse, there's also a dedicated software available ('Logitech Gaming Software') which usually gives you some additional settings and might be worth checking out.
In case you don't already use it, download links can be found on the G500 product page.

In general available mouse settings might vary a little bit depending on the OS and the input device/mouse model. Also, not all mouse models come with a dedicated software and have only the mouse settings in the OS available.
That's why I asked which OS and mouse you're using.

it's fine that reaper snaps while scrolling the arrange view, but it would be really slick if there was a smoother algorithm in it

I found this working on my mine.

If you go to Preferences -> Advanced UI/System Tweaks -> Uncheck all "Throttle mouse-events" boxes, you will get buttery smooth zooming and scrolling.

Hope this helps!

It seem this option doesn't exists in Windows version ;-(

I'am using Reaper v6.08/x64 on windows 10, with Logitech Anywhere MX 2

Exactly the same, here!

We'd like to have this feature, if there's no way to change, via preferences, the scrolling, zooming options!

I have problems with that too. Without smooth scrolling, sometimes it's not clear where everything jumped and you get lost.

I'm on Mac 10.15.5 with Reaper version 5.62/64, must I upgrade Reaper to see this option?

Me and the lovely settings search function can't find these checkboxes.
Totally getting lost, even yet especially in smaller projects where being properly vertically zoomed-in is needed 90% of the time.

I am ready to receive buttery smooth.

Try Preferences/General/Advanced UI/System Tweaks - I don't see any "Throttle mouse-events" boxes.

Hi Dave, thanks for your contribution. At least I now I have a great new splash screen.

You helped me find the elusive "Advanced UI/system tweaks..." button. But I'm guessing my version of shown window is a bit more bare-bones compared to your screenshot. What version are you running? And are you experiencing the butter? I have tried changing some seemingly related settings, but to no avail.

I'm guessing I was too nervous to update (no offense to the Reaper devs, I have just too often experienced updating as a little hell on earth with other software/devices/firmware/drivers).

I'm on Win10 with Reaper v6.71.

I'm not buttery smooth and didn't even know I wanted it until this thread.

I saw this older thread - https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=222949.

I searched actions for grid, zoom and mousewheel and various preferences and didn't see anything helpful.

I'm guessing that if there was an obvious solution then some of the experienced reaperites would have chimed in by now.

I now updated to v6.75 and these boxes were already unchecked. The scrolling is stil very coarse. Can u share a video of your butter?
