Default "Known Good" 16-channel USB mixer

Hi.

Can anyone recommend a good 16-channel USB mixer with decent AD/DAs that plays nice with REAPER?

Thanks!

Ok, so far I have seen:

- Yamaha MG166CX-USB: Seems to have exactly what I'm looking for. I only found one post in the website from someone having some issues with his setup, though. Has anyone used it with REAPER?

- Yamaha LS9-16: I don't see any USB connectors in the back port, like the LS9-32 has. Maybe it's an add-on? It looks like the de-facto connection is a LAN port. The unit looks nice, I may at least get one to try it. Any experiences with REAPER?

- Allen&Heath ZED-12FX: Not enough XLR inputs. ZED-22FX and ZED-24 have too much, won't fit in my space.

- Mackie ProFX12: Same thing, I need at least 10 XLR inputs. And again 2404-VLZ3 doesn't fit in my space.

I think one of the Yamahas will do. But before I waste any time ordering them and trying them (looks like they are made for Cubase), I would like to hear if anyone had any gotchas or have other recommendations.

At this point money is not much of a problem but space & time are.

Thanks!

you realise the Yamaha LS9-16 costs about £5000 and your other options cost around £250-300.

you'd be better off deciding on your budget first...

LOL. Yes, that is not a problem as I said. I saw the price. It's around US$6500 here and that's OK. It fits in the 50cms (~20inches) I have.

Cheers.

Alesis 16ch MultiMix (usb 2.0)

http://alesis.com/multimix16usb20

8 xlr inputs built in, get something like a Nady PRA-8 rack preamp ($100ish) for inputs 9-16

or get 2 of them..

Be sure to check the bit and sample rate supported with any system you are thinking of getting. Many are only 16 bit.

Only 8 XLR inputs. I need at least a couple more.

Also, I am trying to stay away from Behringer and Alesis. Too much unreliability. I used to be a great fan of Alesis products, but that was back in the days.

Good advice. I am trying to read the fine print in everything I come across. Thanks.

EDIT

- MG166: 16-bit recording.
- LS9: 24-bit A/D, but it seems the USB is only for a USB memory and only up to 2GB is supported (WTF???). LAN is 100Mbps and not GigE, and only for MIDI. Not good.

The quest continues...

Are you sure those mixers will do, I mean, from what you said I figure you need AD/DA for each individual channel, right? So that you can do multi-tracking?

Most mixers you listed will not do this.

If money is not a problem and you can afford a TI Firewire card, I would suggest Presonus Studiolive or Yamaha N-12.
