Default Lanes not lining up, how to fix?

I'm doing takes for a bass recording, and the takes aren't lining up correctly. They used to work just fine, and for the life of me I can't figure out what changed.

At the start of the recording there are 2 lanes, then where I started the next section, there are 3, and later at the next punch in there are 4. As each lane is added, the lanes get shorter, and they don't align vertically.

I'm sure this is an easy fix, but I can't find it, even after searching for a while.

Not sure if that's what you're looking for, but you may try enabling 'Options -> Take lane behaviour -> Display empty take lanes'.

What this does is align the takes horizontally so there are no 'take lane jumps'.

(since you say 'they don't align vertically' maybe that's not it though)

I've got the display empty take lanes option checked already, that isn't the problem unfortunately.

Ok, then maybe you had 'auto-punch selected items' enabled before?
(You can choose this rightclicking the record button.)
