Thanks osxmidi, I've had waves plugins working on two different installs. This one was working up until last week when I ignorantly checked the "Enable GTK3 theming" box in winecfg. Couldn't get my plugins working again, so did a fresh install of MX Linux 18.2.

Either there is another step that I'm blind to, or something has changed with software.

Below are the exact steps I followed, in order. I worked from this list to avoid skipping a step or doing something out of order.

Is there a preferred Wine version these days? I'm looking to run Addictive Drums and Amplitube on Manjaro. I'm gtting some crackling with more than one instance of Amplitube with the latest Wine stable. I see that some of you are running Amplitube. Maybe I'm missing some gotcha.

I'm using Wine-Staging 4.0rc1 from https://www.winehq.org/

I'm sure it's been updated since I switched to it a few months ago so I could install Kontakt. I had been running Wine-Stable from the distro I run Xubuntu, but when I decided to get serious and try getting Kontakt installed, the recommended Wine version was Staging.

I don't know which solved my issue with Waves plugins, but it had to be one of these two:

One of the winetricks installs mfc140.dll in syswow64, I was copying (over the winetricks version) a different version of this driver from an existing W10 installation.

I used winetricks mfc42 instead of copying mfc42 and mfc42u into the system32 folder.

I think during my previous successful attempt I forgot to copy mfc140 over the existing winetricks version so it worked. It was probably mfc140, but I can't say for 100% certain. Its's working now, so I'm not going to try and find out!

Default Kontakt 6 Crashing

Hi guys hopefully you can help me!

I am running ubuntu 18.04 and the most recent linvst + most recent wine devel version.
For some reason kontakt and some other virtual instruments keep crashing when I want to load them. The strange thing is, if I open a project where they are already loaded (an old project) they run perfectly fine.
I have all the necessary .dll overrides that are recommended in the linvst guide.

Attached is the crash report.

File Type: txt backtrace.txt (18.9 KB, 409 views)

What DAW are you using? Have you tried creating a new session since this problem began? I’m wondering if it is caused by a corrupt session file for a specific session.

I use Reaper linux native version 64 bit.

This problem occurs in every project where I want to add a new instance of Kontakt. New or old projects, there is no difference.
Strangely enough when I load track templates that already have Kontakt on them there is no problem.

Default Newbie on Mint19.04: Reaper Jack Low Latency Kernel, and?

Hi,

for many reasons I decided to leave Windows and I find in Linux Mint 19.04 my new comfortable workbench..... I have been looking for a method for a long time for work with audio on Linux but I find only tiny information about one starting point for newbie like me....Now I try to share one INCOMPLETE list that I write for install software for RT audio, but I don't understand if is correctly or if I lost anything (this list is a summary of information taken from forums, videos on youtube and more, but I dont know if is correctly or complete) ... please help me...

Natively mint does not provide the tools to work with real-time audio (right?)

1.I install the low latency kernel:
sudo apt install linux-lowlatency

2.Configure real time access.Add your current user to the audio group:
sudo adduser username audio
And then give the audio group real time access: Add this 2 lines to the file: /etc/security/limits.d/audio.conf (You may have to create it)
@audio - rtprio 99
@audio - memlock unlimited
3. Add the KXStudio repository
download/install the kxstudio-repos.deb. and kxstudio-repos-gcc5.deb,
files taked from https://kx.studio/Repositories (also install the dependencies that will be required)
4. Install pulseaudio-module-jack
sudo apt install pulseaudio-module-jack
5. Install from Ubuntu Software Center qjackctl
6. Install Carla:
sudo apt install carla
7. Install Carla bridge for vst and vst3 plugins:
sudo apt install carla-bridge-win32 carla-bridge-win64
during this installation you are asked whether to keep or overwrite the audio.conf file generated at the step 2. I keep this file (is right?)

6. Install Reaper (Linux Vrs)

when all is installed, I put some vst and vst3 plugins in the /home/.vst and /home/.vst3 dir, run Jack, I open Reaper configured for work with jack, I scan the vst directory but these doesn't appear in the list....

what I wrong? Please help me!!!

do you really need to install it carla?

before installing carla, audio jack worked; when i installed carla, audio jack no longer connects to the server for the RT

this is my list with my errors.... please help me...

help me understand what I'm wrong and what I can do

R

The folders /home/.vst and /home/.vst3 are for native Linux VST plugins, so if the ones you put there were for Windows they won't be picked up. If you need/want to run Windows VST plugins you'll need to have them installed in WINE and then use the WINE to Linux bridge LinVST.

Better than last year at-least.

Kontakt's disk image files are hybrid Mac/Windows and Linux will quit seeing the Windows side halfway through without this sooper sekret command. Replace "Kontakt_Factory_Library.iso" with whatever name the file you are trying to install to make it visible through the entire install procedure.

sudo mount -t udf Kontakt_Factory_Library.iso -o unhide /mnt

Ohh, post of failure became useful after all.
No chance I would have known that sudo line if you did not mention it lol, thank you!
So WINE is not a seamless XP yet when it comes to this, always workarounds like this?
Are you telling me everything NI has to offer software wise will work with this?

I've only installed Kontakt and it's factory library, but it works fine and I use it the same way as I used it in Windows.

When the installer blows in WINE because it can no longer see the Windows part of the .iso file, it leaves the .iso on your HD and that's where you use the mount command with the unhide option. Then when you run the installer, it will continue past the point where it blew out before.

Wow.. Got Kontakt installed and it works.. but not the drag of wav files from REAPER explorer, must use Kontakt browser, but hey! how sensational cool is this!?

Forgot about LinVST, had to learn that also.. but it woooorked!

Installed Reactor 6 also, works but, had to try it with something, tried to install Monark but then I think I need to use your tip, but ofc.. the distro I was on had no fancy terminal per folder/file thing, miss KDE atm so SchmajjL shall do that next, something KDE, please.

But still, jabba dabba doo!

Hmm, wiki.winehq.org/FAQ:
"Never run any application (including Wine applications) as root (see above)."
Would that include the sudo mount thing?

The advice to not run applications as root is mostly about "applications", rather than simple commands, some (not most) of which do need to be run as root, e.g. mounting filesystems in that way.

Edit: so yeah, don't use sudo unless someone wise has told you to do so.

Running something in WINE as root would probably begin with something like,

sudo wine . . .

which the mount command does not do. It simply says mount this .iso image and then don't hide any of it from me. With NI's installer and Linux it stops seeing the Windows part of the disk and believes it to be a Mac only disk halfway through the installation. This wouldn't happen if the .iso wasn't both Windows and Mac.

Glennbo, this sudo mount -t udf yippie-kay-yeah!.iso -o unhide /mnt
Is that the same on Manjaro "Arch" and other non Ubuntu's?

Future Ubuntu seems to have a 32-bit "fight/issue" with Steam so..
Not sure if this will affect Mint, they are more (Ubuntu compatible) but they still update from Ubuntu LTS so, i'm a tad confused so, back to my question

Bonus:
https://twitter.com/Plagman2/status/...106973698?s=09
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-RUR002Qzw
And WINE is not happy either? *Insert confused Smiley*

It should be. I originally got it from someone running Arch.

The important thing is the -o unhide parameter, as Linux mounts the osx/windows cd/dvd/iso differently than osx/windows does. Otherwise wine doesn't see all the windows files. I've only ever observed this with NI stuff.

Just NI stuff I've tried it on also so far would not surprise me if they Could, do things to make it easier for WINE'ers.
Is this not something winetrix or something like that can automagicalize?
gracias

I don't think so, it's just a question of how Linux mounts the media (it's not wine itself doing the mounting).

Still IMO it's just a minor annoyance with NI, the big annoyance is not knowing/remembering the parameter when one tries to install something. The first time this took me days to figure out, another time I remembered that it needed something special, still I had to google for hours before I found the information.

A weird plugin issue, Massive X demo is running well enough
with linux reaper, but in windows 7, all Massive X sound is
heavily distorted. And only the sound of Massive X.
Never had such an incongruity before.
Any clues? My win 7 is kind of a catchall for bundleware,
no-brainer sales/gifts, and the occasional too-fabulous-to-resist
item, so my msoft config prowess is a bit limited, but generally
speaking, works when called on.

No problem on W10, hmm, hopefully just a *doh!* somewhere.
No problem on Linux either, just installed msvcp140=native and set as Windows7 compatible, and the tips I got here.
Much help I am...
Version 1.0.1 btw

Ps: Thanks for making it scale'able NI!

Size options are nice, plus a decent preset browser. Could be better,
but OK considering the present transition and difficulties.

Default ReValver 4

Hey, did someone got ReValver 4 running with Linvst?
What are the necessary dll overrides?
Mine is always crashing as soon as I'm trying to use a control in the plugin.
I think it also has problems with accessing the lock device which is a dvb-stick in my case and probably has a different hardware id in linux...

Thanks in advance

PS: I'm on Linux Mint with the latest stable wine

Anyone has some wise words to share?
Hi there, can you tell me how you installed those free vst plugins in Ubuntu/Linux? On their site it says I have to install the Spitfire audio app first but I can't see how to do that, it just offers for Windows or Mac.

Hi, first you need to install Wine and then LinVST to create so files. There's alot of info on LinVST in this forum (creator osxmidi I think) . I store all my vst's in /home/tobbe/VST where I have a copy of DLL files and so files.

Download Spifire Labs. You need to create an acount because you need to login when you start the program.

In Reaper you point out where you have your Windows dll's and so a new scan.

Can someone help me get kontakt player working again on arch linux? It was working fine and then a month ago it stopped working, I tried older versions of wine, older kernels, older versions of systemd, none of that made a difference. I tried starting the wine prefix from scratch but maybe I had too many winetricks things enabled because that didn't help either. I started fresh on the wine prefix once again but this time with no winetricks tweaks enabled. Kontakt player appeared like it would work again, it loaded with wine again without errors, but now the issue is native access won't work so now I can't authorize kontakt player to run. The error from native access is
Code:
002a:err:module:import_dll Library Qt5Widgets.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\Native Instruments\\Native Access\\Native Access.exe") not found
002a:err:module:import_dll Library Qt5Quick.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\Native Instruments\\Native Access\\Native Access.exe") not found
002a:err:module:import_dll Library Qt5Qml.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\Native Instruments\\Native Access\\Native Access.exe") not found

002a:err:module:import_dll Library Qt5Core.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\Native Instruments\\Native Access\\Native Access.exe") not found
002a:err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Importing dlls for L"C:\\Program Files\\Native Instruments\\Native Access\\Native Access.exe" failed, status c0000135
Currently I'm using wine-staging 4.18-1 .

Maybe I didn't install things in the proper order. I installed native access by itself on a fresh wine prefix and it loaded up no QT5 error but it hangs on the login and doesn't complete the login process.

After I get kontakt player working again I would also like to hopefully have shaperbox from cableguys working properly. I tried the demo and it seemed to work but when I close the plugin's editor it immediately crashes.

Installed kontakt player and it looked like it was opening right and clicking the register button opened up native access properly but it never completes the login. When I closed kontakt player's editor it instantly crashed
Code:

Kinda the same with Izotope's install manager,
everything installs and behaves right up to the point
where the serial number gets sent, press the enter key,
and the it acts like the internet was not invented yet...

I'm answering myself. The license data depends on the MAC adress(es) of the (Linux) network interfaces. My Wifi adapter had MAC randomization enabled and therefore killed the licenses on each restart ;-)
