Anyone using Focusrite Saffire Pro (26, or 40 models) ???
Hey,
I'm interested in buying the Saffire Pro 26 or Saffire Pro 40.
I was curious... I've never seen an interface that gave you more than 8 analog inputs simultaneously. Now, the Saffire Pro 26 has eight mic pre's, and 8 line level inputs.
I assume that these are linked, and you can only use 8 inputs - either a mic one, or a line one.
Or do they let you use 16 inputs? That would be sweet if they did, but I'm thinking that the bandwidth of firewire400 wouldn't be enough for 16 channels of audio.
Anyone know for sure???

Dunno.. but I routinely use 3x MOTU 896s on one firewire port, and it works great (24 ins, 24 outs).. Though with those channels can't go above 48khz I don't think.
Also that required XP SP1, SP2 broke the firewire bandwidth..

Actually... think I just answered my own question!
Still definitely interested in the Saffire 26.

therrible drivers. Clicks, drops, hisses etc. while turning on/of and changing refresh rate. Converters sound ordinary as every usual interface. Preamps are a little better than in other interfaces, but without good converters it's not so usefull.

Yes, I got that impression today after talking with a colleague. He says go RME, but I'm not sure I can really afford to do so!
I might get a Fireface, and then later on add the QuadMic device, which would give me 6 mic pre's eventually.
