Need firewire connection for laptop

Hi Guys,

I have a Compaq CQ50 and no place to put a firewire card..My interface is the Presonus FP10 and I need some sort of converter or sumthing to get Firewire into a usb connect....I called around yesterday and it sounds like that is not possible.....Any suggestions.....

hmmmmm.... I heard of apple releasing such a product, one of their mac-books didn't have a firewire port so they got some flak for it, so they released a USB-Firewire bridge. Personally, it sounds like a bad idea, you're most likely going to encounter very bad audio latency, driver issues and drop outs on your firepod. My suggestion would be try to get a different laptop with Firewire on it (or a card bus you could put a card into), or get a usb audio interface to switch out for your firepod.

YEP! That's an express card and I found out they have express card to firewire adapters(thanks to you Kirk) and I'm off to Frys' 2morro!! (-:

MAKE SURE it has TEXAS INSTRUMENTS chips. (If you want it to work)

Both Belkin and SIIG make respected firewire cards with TI chips.

Also stay away from combo Firewire/USB cards; they've been known to cause trouble....

Well I found out all I have is a 5/1 card reader for picture cards so I'm still stuck......)-:

If you laptop has a free pci slot to add a card you could purchase a TI chipset firewire card and install it that way.Or maybe get the firewire to usb thing and monitor your firepod directly to avoid latency issues.
