I did consider to buy an S88, but due to lack of documentation (and for other reasons) I finally bought a Kawai VPC1 and a Behringer XTouch Compakt.

Together and with the JSFX programming I did (and finally with OSCIIBot to integrate control for an XR18 via OSC via WLAN) this combination is a great Master-Controller-Keyboard providing Motor Sliders - but no Light Guide.

KK loads pretty fast over here... Actually, faster than Kontakt by a second or two.

Make sure you disable usage data tracking in options.

I should have specified what I meant. Not the instrument loading is slow, but the loading of the instance itself.
It just feels like it is initializing something.

Exactly what I mean myself. Loading an empty instance of KK, faster than Kontakt.

That's crazy, I have to check if I have data tracking enabled. But usually that's what I turn off, first.

Okay, just uploaded a quick GIF. Data tracking is turned off, btw.
Maybe I have too many libraries installed...

Default KKM2 Reaper Integration?

Hi All,

I'm a SONAR Platinum orphan, and have decided to adopt Reaper as my SONAR DAW replacement. Today, I received a KKM2-61 keyboard. I have read this thread in its entirety, and am wondering about transport control in Reaper since the Mackie standard is no longer supported by NI for the MK2 keyboards. Over the past 12 years, or so, I have had many keyboards with transport controls, and have always just set everything up to work with Mackie controls. Now I am confused. Reaper, as did SONAR, supports Mackie transport control surfaces, but KKMK2 doesn't have a preset to support this? Does this mean that I won't be able to use the transport buttons on the NI keyboard to control Reaper?

Yes, unfortunately until NI adds MCU support to S-series mkII, you cannot use the keyboard's transport controls in a DAW that is not supported with their "deep integration".

It's basically a contextual menu:

And the icons are selfmade (a simple screenshot from the app icons)

I don't think Native Instruments will support Reaper anytime, soon.
This project isn't even close to dead, just sit tight guys.
The reason for the delay is sadly out of my hands, but rest assured that as soon as I get the reply I need from "external parties" you'll have it.

Yes, and no. MKII is, afaik, backwards compatible, so the plugin "should™" work with MKII as well. Sadly I'm unable to develop and test for the MKII since, simply, I can't afford it at this time.

Ah, yes. I actually had a chat with NI about this. Not sure what I can share, but there may be a solution. It will probably not be in the first version of the plugin, but rest assured I'll investigate this further.

Unfortunately, no, it's not backwards compatible. I've discussed this with NI, "deep" host integration with mkII is done differently than mkI (because of the new displays). Also there's no MCU as of yet.

I would like to offer you compensation (in however small form I can afford) for your work on this when it's complete. Please consider a way for us to do that for you !

This means a lot to everyone who has KK, and was a deal breaker for many others who didn't want to get on board. I personally didn't get the keyboard thinking it would ever get any sort of special integration with Reaper, but the prospect of a more fun workflow just makes me smile !

Great news everyone!

I've finally cleared everything with all external parties and received a GO for launch. Life has unfortunately been a bit stressful lately, so I'm a bit behind on finding a hosting solution. Hopefully I'll have the time to provide you guys with a link after this weekend.

Sit tight!

Woop! That's awesome news! Really looking forward to it
You could use the reaper stash to host the files. Unless you plan
to create a fully featured website

I wouldn't be too pessimistic. If he is doing the work for NI, they will officially release it, I guess.

I'm actually use the macky method to control the DAW but I noticed that if I turn off the keyboard when I turn on it Reaper don't recognize it at all.
If I reset the MIDI devices came back to work but the DAW control is dead. How do you solve this issue?

I'm also thinking of build the light guide for some instruments I use manually with the editor, because of the "onyl .nks" limitation, so I will use the S88 as a MIDI device and not a KK device.

With this plugin I could use it completely without KK that stole some more resources than Kontakt.

I’m eagerly planning the mk II s61 purchase partly based on this plugin...although to be fair the ability to tweak the NI plugins easily is pretty attractive on its own.

I’ll add my support to this project as well - if money or donations are required I’m happy to make them.

This plugin was, AFAIK, intended only for mkI keyboards, not mkII.

True enough. I re-read the thread.

I may just jump in for the s61 mk2 anyway. We’ll see...

Do be aware that none of the extra buttons (play, stop, metronome, etc.) on mk2 work with Reaper as mk2 doesn't support MCU as it is now. mk1 does.

Thanks ED. I’m aware...I’m hoping the deeper dive into NI Komplete will be worth it on those screens. Plus NKS integration.

Maybe the CSI Reaper Extension (-> https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=183143 ) will help, once it overcomes the pre-Alpha state. It is able to be configured to use a wide range of Midi messages for Reaper DAW control (any MCU-type actions), and happily includes a Midi Monitor (Log) allowing for easily see the (undocumented) messages sent by a Midi device.

Right now Geoff is very helpful, implementing additiona features to support the rather weired native mode of my Behringer X-Touch Compact surface device.

If anybode has a mk2, he might want to join this (loooong) thread and test what CSI can do for this device,

-Michael

mk2 controllers only work with OSC, so if CSI works with that something could happen... but you'd need to decipher which OSC messages mk2 controllers use. MCU is 100% non-existant on mk2 controllers as of yet.

So it has a network socket ?!?!? Or did thy implement a (non-standard) OSC via USB transfer mode ?!?!?

I don't know whether CSI is going o be able to accept OSC as well. But from the thread name, I do suppose so. We would need to ask Geoff....

As I did work with OSCII-Bot, I know that deciphering OSC is not that much different from deciphering Midi, even though the content of course is completely different.

That is off-topic here, but a word of warning about NI hardware...

After some update of Cakewalk Sonar (probably after switching VC version) and till now (so CbB), NI VST is unable to communicate with own hardware when running inside Cakewalk. Note that this communication is closed, proprietary and undocumented and DAW is not involved in that process. When and if NI is going to fix that (I repeat, while the bug is somehow indirectly triggered by the host, it is NI internal) is unclear. The story is: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3759903

I understand there is no such problem in REAPER for the moment. But since it is not in the "specially supported DAWs" list, I guess if that happens they also will have no problem declare the issue as low priority.

Taking into account they change technology without even bothering to say users what it is (I mean OSC in MK2), the probability some bad things can happened is far from zero...

EDIT: see later post for the Happy End of this story.

I know someone else is already working on a REAPER extension for this, but there hasn't been any further comment on that for a few months, plus there was some uncertainty about whether it would support MK2. So, I started writing my own, using the Ableton Live scripts as a guide to the OSC protocol. This way, I could get most things working in time. However, the one big problem I have is that I can't get the instance identifier for instances of the KK VST. According to the Live scripts, there should be a VST parameter named "NKIBxx" (where xx is a different two digit number per instance). However, in REAPER, the first parameter always returns an empty name. It seems the original poster did find a way to get this, but I haven't been able to find a way. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd love to hear them. Right now, I can use the play, stop and record buttons and it's not hard to add more, but the instance button gets disabled once DAW integration is detected, so not having instance detection is a huge problem.
