Default Which install to use on AVLinux?

So my previous attempts at connverting Kde Neon into a studio distro was in vain. I understand that the KXStudio 18.04 will using Neon so I will let those that know more about distro building do it the right way, lol.

I'm using AVLinux 2018 at the moment and its working pretty awesomely. Now to install Reaper should I go with the instructions from

https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=210390

or go with the .deb from AVLinux
http://bandshed.net/forum/index.php?...23754#msg23754

I'm asking because I remember reading somewhere in the forums about having to uninstall wine and use a different version for the latest Reaper to see vst. I think that post was about using MT Powerdrummer or EZ Drummer.

And of course I cant find that post now that I'm looking for it. Shouldve bookmarked it, lol.

I'm dealing with Ardour for now but I'm on vacation this week and wanted to get Reaper working in AVLinux.

I know that version is behind. I just wondering which would be the better way to do it.
I was asking because the method of installing is different and I dont want to risk removing something that works with 100% of the stuff on the OS just to make 1 new thing that is experimental.
I like to know I'm not going to bork an entire system before I actually bork it.

You can use REAPER without running the installer to see if it works on your system. Just extract the archive and run the `reaper` binary.

The provided install-reaper.sh script copies the files into /opt (or a custom directory) and optionally installs XDG desktop integration (per-user or system wide).

In the install it talks about libswell. I dont have libgtk3 but I do have libgtk2 so I guess I need to build libswell targeting gdk2.
But it says I can for a headless build.

Just exactly what is a headless build? Is this something to do with the way the theme looks or the window decorations? I think that gdk is part of the gnome development kit or am I getting my acronyms confused?

And now I run into a problem.

I cant get Reaper to add ~/usr/local/lib/vst in the plugin scan.

Can this be a permissions issue?

I installed to /opt since I am the only user.

I also got libswell installed for GDK2 no prob.

You probably mean /usr/local/lib/vst, /usr/lib/vst or ~/.vst

Headless mode disables the GUI entirely.

@jackwinter Yes that's what I meant. I got it to work. Don't know how but I got it. All I can think is that I restarted Reaper.

@cfillion I was wondering if that might be what it means. I'm obviously not a cli guy, lol. I know a few and it's definitely not my thing. Lol
