Some vintage jazz
Well, I don't think I could come up with a more opposite song than my last post.
Of course I'm all the vocs and attempted to play an old guitar style. Yeah, even that virtuoso double-note lead.
The worst and most time consuming part, though, was all the overdubs it took for me to play the entire string and brass sections. Don't wanna do that again too soon. Whew!

Shocked the hell outta me. I'd have figured you would have liked the one with me and Morgon better. Thanks man.

This is the lounge-iest. You're really expanding your portfolio here.

AD2 brush kit: Drums
Kontakt (so much better than my usual SampleTank, so I've switched): Bass and strings
Brass is a cut up horn track, so it's falsely real. Thank you G.

For some reason I'm not surprised
You really nailed the 'room' feel. It sound damn vintage!
The only 'complaint' might be that to wait with the drums a bar or two, but.......

I originally mixed this in and for mono (damn that sounds weird) to try to be more "authentic." But decided more modern ears would prob prefer a stereo version. Thus...
Thanks guy.

Went ahead and added the mono version. Took me three tries because I played back the upload and went, "damn, this is still stereo." So I made double sure Reaper's mixer was on mono and re-uploaded. Still stereo. Tried one more time and it hit me that the render settings was set to stereo. I had no clue until now that the render also had to be set to mono (thinking mono on the Master was enough, and stereo in the render would be ignored).

Thanks Glennbo. I've always had a secret soft spot for that old style jazz. Figured I've give it a try myself.

Great job Sam! I second you are a man of many hats.. Love the horns, guitars! All stellar!
I have this free IZOTOPE plug that I've always wanted to use - but can never find the right application. I think this would have been it had I mixed it!!

Glad you bared with me guys.
And Mark, you mean Vinyl? I have that plugin and actually tried it, but I didn't like what it did to the overall mix. Could have been perfect for the mono version, though.

Sam I've avoided commenting on this as my new policy is don't post unless you have something constructive to say and I'm afraid the word "jazz" is an instant turn off for me! However on actually listening I have to say you've really captured an era in mood and execution. It could be from the 20s to 40s and reminds me of stuff my parents would listen to (Dad was a small-time bandleader and violinist and Mum was a very creditable singer).
These big band type arrangements are deceptively complex and you've nailed it here musically and vocally. Clever stuff, great versatility.

My mom loved those old comedies (Abbot/Costello, Martin/Lewis, Bing/Hope, etc) and as a kid I'd hear that old music in those movies. It kinda grew on my despite my normal listening to R&B, soul and rap during that period. When I visited her on TG, I watched an old Abbot/Cost movie with her that featured the Andrew Sisters. The music caught my ear and I wrote this when I got home. So I guess this was sort of for Mom.
Thanks for listening Barry.

Thx man. I did include the mono version in my OP. I say "version" but all I really did was hit Reaper's "stereo/mono" mode on the master. The only 'mixing' was that I had to turn the bass down about db in the stereo one. It came thru stronger in stereo for some reason.

Sammy - this is great! I smiled through the whole thing imagining I was sitting in front of one of those big old radios from the 30's! Tremendous job!

Thanks for listening Kyle. Seeing your old avatar briefly made it seem like the "old" Reaper forum.

Nice work. I am sure that somewhere there is a theatre production that needs this as a "show tune." I listened to this and I felt like it has "show tune" written all over it.
