Default Gary Moore style song (Still Got Some More)

Hi,

We just did a video for a new song in the style of the classic Gary Moore guitar ballads. It is not a cover, just trying to write a tune that he could have written.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wHOOIRr6Ug

Done with Reaper of course.

Thank you if you take the time to listen.

Well done.

It has soul in all the right places.

Nice job! Love the tune. Interesting choice of lyrics at times but it all works. Nice picking and I hear the Gary Moore in your playing. Not sure that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I can hear it.

Thank you Jeff.

Yes, the lyrics are lightly tongue in cheek just like our other songs have less than serious lyrics.

But musically it's a sincere effort to pay tribute to the Gary Moore style the best we could.

He has around 4 songs that are all basically variations of 'Blue Bossa' in ballad mode.

On the plus side, I love the sound of this. A very Moore-like ballad with a very Moore-like progression. I do think you can push the vibrato on the guitar more -- he would have wrung every note for emotion. I know it's tough, because he was a legendary emotive player. The note choice is there...

The lyrics, I know, are supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but they almost single-handedly ruined a great tune. It doesn't quite work as satire because it genuinely feels like a homage, and yet the lyrics are clearly poking fun of this type of song. I know it's not my tune, but were this mine I'd try to get inside it more and own it. The cheesy bit of fun sort of feels too easy.

Thanks for the opportunity to listen to this!

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback Smueske.

About the lyrics, you have it right that the lyrics are poking a bit of fun of the broken heart / melodic blues genre while musically it is an actual tribute done with sincerity.

That is our basic "concept", or at least a big element, so it's true for most of what we do.

Some people like that, as it's not something that is really done...at least we felt it wasn't done enough, but it's perfectly understandable that this particular approach, which in a way is fundamentally 'schizophrenic', is not for everyone.

We might also do a few lyrics that are more 'serious' in the future, so not locked into this concept exclusively.

Appreciate it!
