1) create a new project, import a mp4 video
2) create an audio track, import a sound and insert the vst plugin "GRM Contrast Stereo"
3) show video fullscreen
3) render MPEG-4
The rendering window says "not rendering, ETA infinity".

"GRM Contrast Stereo" is a JUCE plugin. It is not 100% reproductible. This sometimes happens even if the video window is not fullscreen or closed.
The problem appeared to me while rendering with video, but I noticed that if I erase the video tracks, as well as all tracks except the track with the plugin, the problem still occurs.
The problem never occured during audio render though.
I have noticed that the hang occurs mostly for these plugins:
- fusion
- warp stereo (3 times out of 4)
- grinder
- evolution with video
but not with these plugins:
- equalize stereo
- shift stereo
- warp mono
- evolution (without video)
- reson stereo
- freeze stereo
- contrast mono
For the moment I don't know if the problem comes from the plugin of from Reaper. But my idea is that Reaper should not allow a problematic plugin to lead to a hang like that. I had this problem for several months and lost some work because I had to Force Quit Reaper.

Matthias, GRM dev here. I narrowed down the problem to Reaper's ffmpeg rendering engine, and opened a new thread here https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=235444 with a bit more technical details for the Cockos devs; it's the same issue.
In the meantime you can either use another renderer (MPEG-4/MOV) or the AU version of the plugins.

thank you for your message and investigating.
I am not using FFMPEG renderer (I have never managed to make it work on my machine...).
The bug occurs also using MPEG4/MOV (please see screenshot in my first post).

It happens on different projects, I can't pinpoint it to a specific plugin.
In this current case everything worked fine for weeks, and now without adding any extra plugins the issue appeared (impossible to render any video in any format). WAV export works fine.
Did you find any kind of video/codec combination that works once you have the issue in a project?
No. I don't think codec settings have any influence.
Sometimes it works again for a few renders.
When it does not work, I have no other solution than bypassing the plugin, or freezing the track.
Please isolate the plugin that creates the bug (you remove one plugin after the other, starting with FFT plugins). It would probably be useful to know. At the moment, I can't tell if it is Reaper's fault or the plugins'.
In Reaper Preferences, could you try options such as:
- Parameter automation notifications: Ignore all notifications
- Inform plug-ins of offline rendering state
I'm having the same issues on an iMac, no plugin processes however.
After trying anything I could think of, I switched to 1x offline render and it worked.
ETA Infinity occurs at video render, with any codec.
It might happen more often (3 times out of 4) with:
- video and plugin windows open
- MPEG-4 Video (streaming optimized) or MPEG-4 Video
- ffmepeg/libav
- Video GIF
