Monkey's Audio is a file format for audio data compression. Being a lossless format, Monkey's Audio does not discard data during the process of encoding, unlike lossy compression methods such as AAC, MP3, Vorbis and Musepack.
Data file compression is employed in order to reduce bandwidth, file transfer time, and/or storage requirements. A digital recording (such as a CD) encoded to the Monkey's Audio format can be decompressed into an identical copy of the original audio data. As with the FLAC and Apple Lossless format, files encoded to Monkey's Audio are typically reduced to about half of the original size,[1] with data transfer rates and bandwidth requirements being reduced accordingly.
Monkey's Audio's advantages are slightly better compression rates compared to FLAC and WavPack,[2][3][4] as well as multithreading/multicore support.[5] Monkey's Audio main drawbacks are the fact that it employs a symmetric algorithm, meaning the decoding takes comparable resources to encoding, which makes it unsuitable for all but the fastest portable players (via Rockbox firmware),[6] and that it has limited support on software platforms other than Windows; on other platforms only decoding is officially supported by third-party programs. Although the original source code is freely available, the license is not considered to be an open source one.[7][8] A GPL version of the decoder has been independently written for rockbox and then included in ffmpeg.[8][9]
Monkey's Audio files use the filename extension .ape for audio, and .apl for track metadata.

I'm not really sure what the cause was, but the TouchOSC connection to REAPER really acted up here yesterday until I rebooted my computer. Not sure about you guys but since stuff can misbehave happily without bringing down the system nowadays, I often forget that rebooting was pretty much a necessary reflex a decade ago and neglect to do that.

Not able to check still yet but does OSC have access to a track's assigned fx parameter knobs yet? This would be a great way quickly going from one track fx to anothers but still have access to a higher resolution than MIDI

Also, my implanted acronym decoder is broken again.. what's "APE"

Edit: ignore the latter question, just found the above post

As far as we can tell, TouchOSC (the specific application) on android is just plain buggy. I don't know what we can do to work around this.

Are you still using your edited-down .reaperosc file? It may simply be that it crashes when it gets too many messages at once, which might be fixable by removing everything you don't need (and maybe some things you do need) from the pattern config file.

hm.....can't say its a progress and cant say it isn't.....reaper sees messages, but doesn't respond to them, and same on TouchOSC,indicator shows that messages are coming but nothing is happening ?For now NO crashing , on ICS it crashed no matter what

Edit:Its working now like a charm on 2.3 (gingerbread) BUT , it's not working with default layout (I modified the track volume parameter but it doesn't respond) but with mine config it works ,without crashing at all

There is a bug with refresh list in OSC window, it doesn't update the list, and that's why it didn't work with default layout, when I copied all inside default layout to my layout ,its working.
OMG I can even troll the client with refresh control surface command and it doesn't crash everything I posted In bug section now works.so BAAAAAAAD android 4 BAAAAAAAD!!!!!!!

I've never worked with this format myself, but just for clarification ... APE/Monkeys Audio are still shown as available on Inert, Media Type and File, Render, Output format drop down lists.

If this format is no longer supported, should they not be removed from these lists?

My guess: Just like mp3, the options are there but don't work without a separate install.

Make sure REAPER is not running or the reaper.exe process stuck in memory (reboot).

I still find an instance where I get wrong unfrozen file. When I unfreeze a VI track with MIDI, I get another audio track (bass guitar). It was a project saved with another name in the same project Dir..

I believe it means Cockos have changed the machine they build/test on.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
