The definition of professional is not whether you have songs on the Billboard Top Ten or not, its when one does this as a full time job that counts. And thats the topic and focus of this thread.

I’ve been using Reaper for some time now, and have been a professional for five years. While I’m a freelance engineer, the studio where I do most of my work has embraced Reaper. The vinyl cutting engineer uses Reaper. We have Reaper in the main studio (and a Pro Tools rig that I have booted 3 times in the four years that I’ve been working there).

That said, this isn’t Nashville, New York or Los Angeles. But we are serving a community and Reaper has been used for a ton of indie releases.

Edit: I suppose the OP’s question is moot by now! I didn’t realize this was an 8 year old thread.

I've been mixing TV/Film on it for over two years and doing all kinds of effects and ADR work on it for over three. Before that I used Protools for that kind of work, and still keep a v11 copy around for checking and converting sessions. Been doing it professionally for a good 20 years now.

Just one of many folks.

Yup, dabbled with it at home for a few years, but in the last 2 years have moved to doing almost all my professional video/radio/podcast work on Reaper.

I use Reaper for over 5 years now, mainly for producing Radio station imaging for a few of the biggest Radio Stations in The Netherlands.

Nice thread!
I have just realized that:
a) I have never participated on any open forum in discussions about tools/technologies I am using professionally...
b) I do not care less what other are using for what I do at work
c) I am reading a lot about what "professionals" are using in all areas of my interests, except for my own profession

PS. That does not mean I read nothing about my work... but that is mostly technical documentation, official publications, books, etc.

PSPS most people with studio and pro musicians I had contact with are rarely visiting music forums, if at all.

Funny you should say that! I quit touring etc in 2006 and started doing nothing but home recording and the odd local gig. Coincidentally this is when I started wearing the reaper & SOS forums out.
SOS was mostly because the publisher was a friend & I knew a fair few of the contributors.
Reaper just because I found it such a friendly helpful place. Still is.

Been and audio engineer/producer for 50 years, retired now but still have clients. I'm still in my studio 6 to 7 days a week, hours differ from 6 to 12.

8+ years ago I came from Sonar to Reaper and will finish out my retirement years with it.

I've started on analog, than Sonar and similar but was never happy. First time I tried Reaper I felt right at home. It has this analogish feel to it for me. It also doesn't feel like part of Windows and that's a great plus since I can't stand Windows :-)

I just realized I've been tinkering and hobby'ing with Reaper for 12 years, the last six of which in professional work, the last three full time.

Gosh how time flies. I want more of that .

Not everyone will understand that one. Question is, have you tried Pro16? On Atari

I am also trying to change from Nuendo to Reaper, but so far, I have tons of questions.
Like for example, can Reaper have two mixers open, like in Nuendo? With 52 ADAT Channels total, 26 input channels, if an instrument plays anywhere in the studio, I could tell which channel number just by looking at the meter light in mixer number two, with input light meters only. Can you do that in Reaper?

Some of my projects can go to 250 tracks, some of my friends in film can use several thousand tracks in film (8000 in some films).

I don't record bands anymore, but I still take on a song writer now and then.

Self Taught Producer / Mix Engineer - Grammy's seem to like what I send them for Round 1 entry nominations. Made enough with (Reaper digitizing reel tapes) to by an Atlas Prism AD/DA unit. A+++ quality - software and people here. Goes on and on....
