Default Fabfilter Pro Q2: eq matching routing.

Dear Reapers,

I am trying to do proper routing in Reaper for EQ matching 2 audio items with Fabfilter Pro Q2 in Reaper..no luck yet..

1) I insert Pro Q2 plugin on Track A, which has audio item A on it.
2) I make a Track, B, with audio item B on it.
3) I open Pro Q2 plugin and drag routing icon from Track B onto Pro Q2 graphical interface.
4) The routing window appears, stating that audio output 1/2 of Track B is routed to input 3/4 of Track A.
5) In Pro Q2, I put sidechain in record mode and play item on Track B.

Outcome: no signal from item on Track B is coming into Pro Q2...

What am i doing wrong ?

Seems OK.

I tried it here with another sidechaining plug-in (I don't have Pro Q2).

That's what I do so I can't see why it wouldn't work for you

Default The sending

I have it on reaper as well and tried the eq matching perfectly. You are sending track a to b and should be b to a, just drag de i/o of your track b and drop to a and set 1/2 to 3/4

i've also had a lot of trouble getting the sidechain EQ to work properly..I think you need to have both tracks audible at the same time else it doesn't work.

I get vastly different results if I load the plugin on both tracks and save the source profile and load it as a preset onto the target track.

Track A (the one that you want the reference spectrum to be applied on)
Track B - Reference Track

- Put Pro Q on Track A.
- open Pro Q
- Drag sends/receives icon from Track B onto Pro Q.
- Close sends/receives window
- Play both Tracks A and B together
- In Pro Q, choose analyzer > EQ Match
The spectrum of Track A is now being analyzed.
After a few seconds, you will see message "Click the reference button..bla bla"
- Choose "sidechain"
The spectrum of Track B is now being analyzed.
Let it run until the spectrum view "stabilizes"
- Click Match.
- Mute Track B

Done.

Just exactly follow my instructions in my last post.
Instead of using Pro Q on the track that you want to have a reference spectrum applied on, use the eventide plugin. (duh).

Let both tracks play.
click the MATCH EQ button.
Let it play for some seconds
click MATCH EQ button again.

Done.

So even abit easier workflow in this plugin regarding EQ match than in Pro Q.

Will test tonight. Thanks!

A little confused with the sidechain though because I always rooted channels 1-2 of the reference track into channels 3-4 of the target track (if stereo). Maybe this is what I was doing wrong?

Ok...so I tested this and was confused at first because I was using the mono version of Pro Q and i couldn't drag the routing icon into the Pro Q plugin....now I selected the stereo one the EQ matching is working a lot better.

It has an EQ machting function. I cant seem to get it to work properly and its probaly because Im not getting the "routing" right. It has 2 side chain inputs. I have two tracks (1 and 2) I would like track 2 have the same EQ as track 1. How do I do that?
I hope this is related to this topic!!! To me it looks like a different approach is needed compared to Pro Q2...maybe Im wrong (I have been wrong before)

Im thinking of purchasing the Fabfilter Pro Q2 plugin
Is there a way to get that Eventide Eq as a VST? No Ilok here....

Yes you can get the plug as a vst from the Eventide site.
To be clear you need an ilok account and you will have to run ilok manager on your computer but you do not need an ilok dongle.

Thank you!

I just bought this EQ, and it's funny how the FF tutorial videos use Reaper but their specific DAW instructions for EQ Match don't include it.

I had sort of figured it out, but your way is better and faster.

Is there any way at all to use the FabFilter Pro-Q 2 (Mono) version and have your mono audio on the track only route to channel 1 of the plugin instance, and send ONLY the sidechain from another track to channel 2?

The mono sidechain setup works okay. But I can't figure out for the life of me how to only have input from the track audio sent to channel 1 ONLY in the plugin instance. The track audio automatically always is routed to both input 1 and 2 of the plugin.

So, it would seem that in order to use the sidechain in Pro-Q 2, I would either have to use the stereo version, or at least add more channels in the VST I/O settings (send from reference track to input 3 or higher on the receiving track, and turn off mono sidechain input from channel 2 on the track).

Or is there some way to make the track audio only route to channel 1 of the plugin?

I sort of steer away from mono versions of VSTs in reaper, they'll cause issues with panning when in folders if not careful.

Thanks x 1 zillion! I have been trying to get this down (sporadically, I admit) for months, and could not get it to work, and so was using another EQ instead for matching.

I couldn't seem to follow any of the videos on YouTube, but these simple, step-by-step instructio9ns do the trick.
