Default Slowing tracks down

Anybody know if I can I slow a track down and preserve pitch as well? (I want to learn a particularly quick guitar solo) Can't seem to find a way to do this simply.

EDIT: Well, found the way to do this but it doesn't seem to work. I'm using an MP3 file - should that make a difference? Also, the speed seems to be different to that I was expecting ! As an example, I loaded an MP3 into A******Y and reduced the speed to 75%. If I do the same in Reaper it seems to be much slower and changes pitch (even though I have selected 'preserve pitch')

Any help would be most appreciated

Many thanks

Have you tried just alt+dragging the right edge of the item? That's the usual way in Reaper.

Huh, I knew that of course, I just wanted to do it the hard way! (Actually I didn't know that at all and it worked a treat - it still doesn't work the hard way though. Does anybody happen to know why) ?

Many, many thanks for the very prompt response and the tip (and not saying RTFM).

Regards

Glad I could be of service.

As for doing it through the "Item Properties", I just tried it and it worked ok here on an mp3. Anyone else having any troubles with this?

I've just tried this again and it definitely doesn't work (assuming I am following the correct procedure, namely, select track properties (F2) and ensure 'preserve pitch' button is selected - Change speed in the master mixer (say .75)and press play. The track is slower but the pitch goes down as well.

Alt+Drag works perfectly however.

Am I doing this incorrectly ?

The PlaySpeed control in the Master section of the Mixer lowers the playback speed of the entire Transport - just like varispeed on an old analog tape deck, so yes, the pitch will drop on every Item in the Timeline. That's the way it's meant to work.

Cheers,

Malcolm.
