Default MODO BASS? or?

do you recommend modo bass? (for bass guitar vsti) or what else competes with that? anything better?

or are there any wav sample libraries i can just load in reasamplomatic that can compete?

You aren't going to get the range of sounds of MODO but you could use the Scarbee basses (currently in the 50% off sale):

It can easily be a real substitute for lots of bass styles. The upright is really nice too as the note velocity controls the amount of fret buzz.

i'd rather go with MODO in this case but interesting to see that too, will take a look to see what differences there are
