automation is ignored
I am trying to control the volume of a recorded microphone. Nothing I do affects the volume. I draw the envelope ok. Points are middle, bottom, bottom, middle. There is no global automation override. I get the same result from a virtual instrument. Automation is ignored.

You could try to right-click on the automation lane and choose "Automation item options for this envelope" and select "Bypass underlying envelope outside of automation items" from the submenu.
(It should have a checkmark, but hasn't one, btw.)
Now you should see the envelope and it should work (hopefully).

That makes the automation disappear. And it is still ignored.

It appears that maybe something is not as it should be.
To help diagnose the problem, could you please set the track layout to standard media and the automation mode to Read.
Now solo the track and play it. Is the track volume fader moving in synch with the envelope?

Is any activity visible in the track VU meter?
Also, when I said to solo track i should have said exclusive solo (right click on solo button for options)

What's baffling me is this shows all the symptoms of putting an audio volume envelope on a MIDI item, but I don't see how that can be the case here as the item was recorded with a microphone - MP3? WAV ?
Can you check item properties for file name?

Try also setting to bypass any track and/or item FX.
Also check from main menu Track, Envelope, Toggle volume active is enabled (but it must be or faders wouldn't move)
Is there anything you can see different about this track/item from your other tracks?

In the FX window, untick individual FX in FX chain to set to bypass. I'm wondering if something there is affecting volume.

There are no effects on voice. One track has virtual drums

Ah a clue! Item properties should only be blank for an empty media item. This is getting really weird.
Can you post a screen shot showing the track, media item and envelope?
I have to go now but can look in again later ...

Just send a message with your email address, I'll take it from there.
I really will need to see the file to try and figure out what's going on, for that I'll need email.

It could (or might not) be because the volume level on track 1 is too low. Check your emails. If you send me a copy I can test if this is so, and if it is, show you how to fix it.

I still can't see why your volume envelope doesn't function, but for now can offer a workaround. Remove the track volume envelope and use a Take volume envelope instead (right click over media item, follow menu.)
