Hello all

My latest composition, made in Reaper, all midi project.
Libraries used:
- Spitfire Albion One
- East West Sound Cloud (brass and solo instruments being flute, clarinet, oboe, in the middle part)
- Sonatina (for the cymbal swells)

Any and all feedback is very much welcomed

i can feel the john williams influences. i think it's interesting. the samples sound a bit midi, but there is also kind of a synth vibe, which is pretty cool.
the composition is great btw

Thank you sir. Struggling to make it sound less midi, one little step at a time I guess.

Good stuff man! You have some great harmonies, especially toward the end of that middle section. I have a feeling that this would translate really well to a live orchestra.

Thank you sir. I am currently actually making a score after getting a phone call from a local conductor here, for a woodwinds and brass orchestra. Quite the challenge

I liked the contrasting middle section with its shorter, varying-instrument bits weaving in and out...

So you mention this is an all-MIDI project in Reaper. As in, no notation, basically? Pretty impressive for the size of the piece.

I have been scouring YouTube for composers who say they create w/o notation, and haven't found much to watch. I can easily see Reaper used for loop-based non-serious music is well suited, but orchestral... I'd like to see some demos from people who show how they do that.

Best luck w/ getting more recognition!

Thank you. And yes, I don't use notation at all during the writing process. Why? I don't know. Am schooled classically, and know music theory and the likes. Also play different instruments. But for some reason I never use notation. I find it easier, and faster because you can immediately hear a result. Only problem is, I mix up composition and orchestration a whole lot, which usually leads to brain chaos.

You might want to check out, if you haven't already, Guy Michelmore: https://www.youtube.com/user/thinkspaceeducation

I'm a realist, not seeing that happen really. But, I do have the need to stay creative, hope I don't lose that.

Oh, yeah, I've looked at a few of his vids. Talk about a frantic person. I should give more of his content a 2nd chance.

Well, when yer up there accepting your Grammy, we hope you'll shout out to your Reaper forum buds...
