Default [Suggestion] 'Save project to new folder/clean project folder'

Hi,
dunno if this has been brought up already, but wouldn't it be nice to have a command like 'Save to new folder' and delete all unused data at the same time to clean up the clutter in the project folder.
When you're 'Cycle Recording' you'll probably want to save all takes first, then comp your section (or choose best take). But this takes up quite some HDD space.
Or create some sort of 'Self Contained' project (similar to Ableton LIVE) where all needed files automatically go into the same project folder (when choosing this command) and the rest is discarded (can be deleted or left on the HDD for later reference if needed)? This way, files which reside outside the project folder like loops or samples anywhere on your HDD, will also be included, which makes archiving/transporting (bring your project to friends house ) projects easy as ...!

Cheers
Raphael

I'm definitely on-board with this functionality, similar to Vegas' "Trim and save media" in the Save As dialog which additionally prompts to trim or copy the source files.

WE have far FAR FAR better with the consolidate function. Check it out!

There already is a "clean project directory " but it scares me

No we don't Pipe, you're thinking in studio terms only.

Consolidate is .wav only if you don't want to re-compress to Lame or ogg.

Reaper has no lossless format such as .pca.

There are many times where shipping projects must be smaller than .wav and re-compression is out of the question.

Copying the source files which may be compressed formats already for laying down tracks against, then re-compressing or .wav for shipping is unacceptable.

It's just not that simple, there are too many variables. Not everyone has broadband.

Lossless would be great, but remember, even with lossless you're only gong to get a max of about 50% compression. (Of course, every bit does help, I understand. Especially if you're on dial-up or isdn or something.)

And the consolidate function IS fantastic, by the way.

So if it could consolidate to wavepack or true audio, that would be a big plus?

Wow, I get more and more impressed.
I just tried the 'Consolidate' function and it's really great. I thought it is only for single tracks or clips, but it can actually be applied to the whole project (audio tracks only).
Has the "Clean Project Folder" command been added in 9.40 or was it there before? This app really is like easter: find all the hidden eggs
I usually create 1 folder per project, so cleaning it up after a recording session shouldn't be too scary.

Yeah, a trash bin of sort would be cool. When you're cycle recording i.e. you won't keep all the takes usually. Save them first, comp your part (or choose the best take) and trash the rest.
For instance, it really looks like Reaper is being created by someone who knows what's really needed in the recording field, unlike some other apps which are around since a long while already.
Keep it coming

Yes, that's the key, to clean it up after each session.
