Default Drum Mixing Advice Request

I'm working on an rock band style album project where the drums were not particularly well set up, recorded under less than ideal conditions with less than ideal equipment.

In my attempt to get a decent drum mix out of the stems I've employed various tactics including replacing the kick with a triggered one, gating tracks, etc.

So far my results are on the wrong side of 'ok'. I suspect an engineer with more experience could wrangle something better out of these tracks.

Would anyone experienced with working with sub-par source be interested in taking a look at a cut-down project file of this material, all FX stripped out, with just some excerpts from various songs, to see if they could offer any suggestions?

This would be a paying job if necessary, please feel free to offer an estimate.

(If this isn't the right place for this kind of request please feel free to let me know)

Put them somewhere I can download them and I will (and I am sure others might too) take a listen. Is it possible to upload the complete stem for the drums.

Just a word of warning - if they are indeed stems (pre-mixed tracks into a stereo pair) then it is limited to what one can achieve. Personally myself I really hate stems, in my mind they are a waste of time and restrictive.

Thank you, I'll PM you shortly with a ZIP file. It's just short bits of the drum tracks for each song.

It's the raw multi-track recordings, no processing at all. Separate FX bus for a little room sound on the snare and toms which can be muted.

Looking forward to your thoughts.

I'd like to have a look, too. I want to test out the drum tracker feature on Superior Drummer 3 to see what it can do in terms of creating a MIDI file of the entire kit.

As the emu guy said, there will likely be others that want to check it out as well.

I'm interested in hearing what you guys come up with.

I got a pretty good result by keeping the hi hat and overhead tracks and replacing everything else with Superior Drummer samples.

If you still need some help...
PLEASE Don't hesitate to PM me! Drums are something of a special thing to me, and making sure drums feel right in a rock mix is something I enjoy greatly.
If I didn't, I wouldn't be doing this for a living!
