Endorphin I once used on a recording of a huge work by Messain for two pianos - I used it to widen the soundstage according to level, slightly, (using the ms setting) which gave the effect of having two stereo mics, close and distant, and appearing to do subtle gainriding of the close mics, which is a quite often used production technique, except I only had one pair of mics in use.

Lost Technology 0.1.3 just put an NES-ish backbeat into a drumloop for me...

Keep the source simple or there are likely to be "audio artifacts".

this thread rocks
Best thread ever ... good program too!
I'm pumping my computer lab FULL of free VSTs and VSTi instruments
Some of my students even used REAPER v0.9 something something (hehe) this year to complete a re-mix project - they liked it better than Cubase!

Just discovered the dtblkfx. It's... a small masterpiece. And that's all I'll say about it. Be sure to try it out. Features and download:

Hello everyone, I'm looking for an effect plugin that will allow me to multiply two (or more) tracks together, in the same way Audition's modulate paste function works. I've tried Trashcoder, which I hoped would be doing about the same thing but the results aren't quite the same... any ideas? If not - it's (I think) mathematically extremely simple - is JS the way to do this (I must admit I haven't tried yet) but otherwise anyone know guides to making vst/dx plugins?
EDIT: Boy JS is nice and simple! Problem solved!

Hi all,
Not sure if this has already been mentioned alsewhere but I discovered GlaceVerb last night as an alternative to classic reverb that was causing problems with rendering. Pretty impressed I was too....

The AirEQ is nice sounding indeed and the demo verson simply resets on loading and does not alow saving of presets.
You can manually create presets by editing the text files I've found. Some math is involved e.g to convert 20-2000Hz into 0-1, etc...
so maybe not completely "free" as you still have to manually choose the preset when loading (or dial in all the values again), but pretty sweet deal...

Posihfopit is quite incredible : 8bands, many eq types, very versatile, nice sounds...
(it is the free version of Electri-Q, which also have spectrum analysis, and more than 96 types of eq !)
waymm Nweq is more "creamy", and the knobby GUI reminds me a bit AireQ. Nweq is very fine.
there is also a payware version.

NWeq is pretty good, although VERY cpu intensive.
Posihfopit is pretty good, although I never really found it to be quite as great as some people find it.
If you can muster up a copy of the free version of PLParEq by Refined Audiometrics Lab, it's probably the best software eq I've heard (it's also very cpu intensive). It's completely transparent and uncolored.
It may be hard to get hold of, however, as it's a commercial product now. You may still be able to get the single band version for free.

That's the one I alwys use I have the free 3 band (version 0.99) if anyone wants it they may want to find out from them if it's OK to distribute, and then I'll gladly email it or host it or whatever.

Just tried 'Posihfopit' for the first time and heck, that's quite an eq, if only in terms of the interface. And now I've cast an eye over the manual, I see there's about ten times more to it than meets the eye! Nice one. The only thing that worries me is the addition of "soft distortion" - I'm not sure I want that.... ah, reading on I see I need to use the Digital mode to remove the distortion.

Yes, it is better to read the manual to get out the best of Posihfopit.
The "soft distortion" is really soft (i would say nearly "creamy").
But you can get clean sound in using another algorithm.

Amazing, that e-phonic's Retro Delay was never posted here. I just used it again for some background vocal parts, impressed by what it's capable of. It's really so much more than a delay plugin, it's a high class effects unit. The KVR page (with some good reviews and a 10/10 rating btw) will give you an idea: http://www.kvraudio.com/get/959.html
http://e-phonic.com/downloads/retrodelay.zip (only 266 KB)

Here's a new EQ I stumbled upon. It sounds pretty good, and the interface is decent, if a might cluttered. Not bad at all!

woops, I meant to say I have the free 3-band version 1.99 (not 0.99) I started using it around the pre-gui phase as well, they optimized it a lot since then, so it's faster.

Note that it might call home, though, for those who don't like home calls.
"6. From time to time, this software may attempt to connect to a remote computer without out explicitly seeking permission at that time. This connection will not transmit any personally identifiable information. By agreeing to this License Agreement you give your permission for the software to communicate with a remote computer."
I'm installing it, though - thanks for the heads up!
(Huh, it expires in a couple of months...).
(Uninstalled it again. Didn't "speak" to me, personally).
(For a pure spectral analysis display, Sonogram SG-1 is the one for me).

For those who want to keep track of new/updated audio software, both commercial and free, bur prefer to stay out of KVR's mess, this is a nice 'n quiet weblog (maintained by stefan svartling from Sweden):
http://making-music.blogspot.com/
Comes with (dev's) descriptions and pics. There's a 3 pages long list of free audio software on the site as well.

Vocal multiplier
Hey gang, a while ago I ran across a VST that multiplied vocals, from 1 to n (you know turn one voice into a choir). I was testing against Reaper and it had issues in earlier versions, so I deleted it. I am pretty sure that I found the download reference somewhere in this forum. I would like to have another look, but now I can't find it again. Does this ring a bell for anyone?? If so can you point me to the download. Many Thanks
Added later...It is NOT Clone Ensembler...it was something else
Added later again...Just in case anyone else is interested, I found it on Audio Forum (thanks Vulcan) It is the Chorus CH-2 from AG Works, and you can get it at http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2073.html. Earlier testing in Reaper sometimes led to issues when I was tweaking parameters during Playback, but I had a specific need where I inserted it, stopped play when I changed things and it works pretty good. One other word of warning....it is a CPU PIG.

Yep, this is one of those examples of a VST that is not written to the standard spec, and therefor causes a problem in Reaper. I do use it occasionally with Reaper, but with a very careful workaround. Do not change any of the settings realtime in the plugin while Reaper is in playback. Stop the playback, make the changes and start the play again. I know it is not ideal, which is why I punted this one off my vst list in the first place. I try to avoid stuff that is not built to standard, but for specific situations I like this plugin and am okay with "careful usage". My recent need was doing a cover of "Fat Bottom Girls", which turned out great by the way. I did four part harmony and used foldering to apply the first effect chain. Then I routed the output of that to a new track and applied it again with different panning. This thing gave me that big fat Queen choir sound. It definately can cause crashes in Reaper, so use it very carefully.
