Soundcloud is dying
Hello.
I've just read an article about Souncloud's bad situation. It has 50 days more, before SC will be a bankrupt. What musical service do you recommend to switch to?

I recommend Fidbak as a replacement.
https://fidbak.audio
You can get a much better than 128k stream as well.

The latest news is that they have funding throughout the end of the year, and got support from a NYC based rapper (forgot his name) as well, so it's not quite over yet.

Such a great opportunity to fill if someone could do it right and not over "exit strategy" it.

Although I did freak out a couple hours ago and downloaded all my tracks back to my pc, doubling my stats haha
For some reason I had just assumed soundcloud would be around forever, not rational I know.

That's what they get for not having a volume fader for their playback system.

Every link I've come across with the Soundcloud player doesn't have a volume control for playback. Or if it DOES have one, it's so well hidden, I cannot locate it.

Humm, that's kind of sad, I thought they filled a void really well.
I don't know how many VSTi library companies use them, but I know there are many.
I guess it's time to start thinking about how to rearrange things.

This is the new way companies ask for money. Threaten to go bye-bye and people will show some support. It's not bad, but it will get old and people will stop caring.

My guess is that some of the staff they let go decided to spread some rumours.

I dunno their business model, but as for providing the artists a platform, bandcamp is the bomb and has been for a while.... Unless ur posting trance mixes or mashups... Then its soundcloud

I find the same thing but only on a page where it's embedded. If it takes you to Soundcloud's site there is a volume control.
And you're right. I hate not being able to turn it down!

Bandcamp does this too.
Workaround: install 7 Task Tweaker, allows you to scroll over either the taskbar or notifications area, as you desire, to control your volume. Does a lot of other nice things also but it's great for that.

The issue Soundcloud has is one that its users have been reporting to it for years and Soundcloud haven't listened.
You're an artist. You put a link to your soundcloud music on Facebook.
Anyone using a tablet or mobile device clicking on that link is taken to the app store to install the souncloud app. Anyone who isn't web-savvy gives up. Your music gets fewer listens.
Artist says “Screw this, I'm using YouTube from now on”.
Goodbye Soundcloud. Simple as that.

What killed it for me was the changes from original ui-and the masses of companies spamming users and then the plague of adverts just nailed it.
Shame really.

Beside Taylor Swift you are that one musician earning good money with Spotify?
Seriously you made me curious - all what I heard before is that Spotify is a joke for a musicians income unless your first name is something like Michael ending with Jackson or so.

Musicians that get streams only in the thousands, yes. But that doesnt equate many CD sales at all. The streaming model is here to stay and is the reason money has started flowing again in the music industry again. With that said, artists should probably get a bigger piece of the cake.

One big problem I guess is that music industry is still stuck in the old structure of sales in local music stores.
I mean one artist, one company, so the report of all streaming of this artist should go to this company?, no way.
If it streamed in Germany ut goes one way, if it's streamed in England it goes another way.
I have worked in a internet music store and the amount of work laid down on reports of sales was ridiculous.
I believe that spotify waste a vast amount of money on these reports.
It's like when I wanted to get a MIDI spec for a guitar processor from VOX and the reply was 'contact you local music store'.
They aren't here yet.

Put it this way, $100 ~= 20,000 Spotify streams. Scale as necessary. If you're a solo and self releasing artist with a modest audience, the money is good and the insight data is an added bonus. Figure in Google play and it looks pretty good for work you might have released 6 years ago that has found it's way into people's saved music, discover weekly, etc

Not in my experience, no.
Bandcamp is good for merch and release month sales, but it brings in about one sixth as much as Spotify a month for me, if that. Bandcamp is useful but overrated and obnoxiously self congratulatory in how they describe themselves

but does it follow the YouTube pay model of the more streams there are on your song the less pay percentage you actually make
|
Based on some people I know... 500k subscibers on YT = roughly 40k USD/Year in income - I'm sure that could vary wildly but if that many subscribers, your going to get a high number of hits when they all get notified there is new uploaded content. That isn't related to music or any other viewing genre, just the rough amount based on views/subscribers. There are millionaires being made on YT though again, this isn't based on streaming music, just the views. I think it would be tough to gain that audience with just music vids if that makes sense.
Now imagine the income of a channel with millions of subscribers.

personal opinion, do not shoot me:
Since day one I tried to use Soundcloud, I hated it and never touched it again, except for some others people uploads there.
Even last.fm had (and probably still has) a better and nice structure but haven't used it either as well for at least three years, so most likely things have been changed there... and I would predict - for worse.
The concept of... how should I put it... """EQUAL""" access to sound distributing platforms online is great (bandcamp, spotify, deezer, patreon, last.fm, soundcloud, mayspace, even facebook) is great, yet at the same time - bad implemented and integrated. I have only found using bandcamp in its full entirety: listen to music, buying music, etc. and have little to no complaints at all.
The majority of those online platforms support themselves by showing adverts and shit taking into account views, visited pages, etc. - hence none cares about the music as long as it generates views for the pages got seen.
Let's say I want to find new, cool, fresh, modern, talented artist. I would try narrow it down to:
· genre of music (arbitrary)
· sub-genres would take me deep into search and could take hours (?) till I find "something similar to X" but new and fresh.
· that is why most advertisers sponsor specific artists in a first place, guided by the same people who create those artists for that specific reason - adverts!
In my country we have this saying:
"Money attracts money! Big money always attract small money."
You could be able to create "the next Spotify or Netflix if you've got big money in a first place". Or be nobody but chosen to be the next "advert" for the masses. Not to mention the algorithms some of those sites like YouTube, Spotify use to offer you waht to watch or hear... it is bullshit!
