bad working Reaper with M-Audio M-Track
Hi, I need someone help to use Reaper with M-Track interface.
My gears HW/SW:
PC Desktop Windows10, Intel Core i7 6700K 4 GHz, 16 GB RAM
M-Audio M-Track
Reaper v 5.40
ASIO4ALLv2
Setting:
ASIO Buffer Size = 256 sample (tried also with 512)
sample rate = 44100, block size = 256
Issues:
in recording phase if I select in ASIO4ALL WDM Device List both MTrack IN and MTrack OUT, the recorded track has wrong timing and some overlapped sounds
if I deselect MTrack OUT recording is OK
in playback phase (MTrack OUT selected in ASIO WDM Device list), it's ok if I don't select MTrack IN, but in this way I cannot add tracks.
If I select during playback also MTrack IN, the playback runs in bursts, and not in continuos way, so not usable when I want to have multitrack recording.
It's an headache.
Someone can give advice?
PS : with the same HW and Audacity everything runs without any issues, but I strongly would like to be able to use Reaper

Audacity doesnt use ASIO as far as I know.
Why are you using ASIO4ALL, a known problem area? Is there no current M-Track ASIO driver?
Alternatively try WASAPI - gotta be better than ASIO4ALL

Thanks for your answers.
Correct, Audacity does not use ASIO.
Effectively M-Audio suggests to use for my M-Track the driver called MTrackQuad.
At the end everything is working!!
I made some comparison.
1) ASIO4ALL driver (with 512 buffer, 256 cause the burst I had) seems the worst in term of latency (11/16ms) and stability of the system. Do not know why but my system has some crashes.
2) MTrackQuad ASIO Driver, block size 256, better latency (8,1/8,1ms), no issues
3) WASAPI in Exclusive mode, block size 256, better latency (5,8/11ms), no issues
I will do some further tests on 2) and 3) to try to understand which is really better, if any.I think I'm going to buy my Reaper license.
Thanks again

To give you a better understanding, ASIO4ALL is a wrapper that fools your computer (and of course Reaper or any other DAW) into thinking wave out or asimilar is a true ASIO audio format. It is a complete kludge and is to be avoided unless you have no alternative.
And like I said, WASAPI will gwenwerally givwe you far better, more reliable results if you have no proper ASIO device.
Have fun!
