Default Melodyne 4 in Reaper-the procedure.

I'm trying to get Melodyne 4 up and running in Reaper (since I heard it working now as a ARA) and I'm having problems.

I inserted it into a vocal Trk Fx bay and opened it, selected Melodic and the scale, etc., clicked transfer and played the track and nothing really happened. It didn't paint the vocal (it seemed to start but stop immediately. Upon multiple tries, it created wave files off to the left column, but nothing's there.

I emailed Melodyne and they said Reaper would only work with Melodyne in the FX bay with Reaper and Melodyne beta versions. Is this true, and if so, is anyone using Melodyne as an ARA in the Fx bay, and where do I get the beta versions? Thanks for your help and any other tips you can give me.

See this for the fix for your current issue.

But ARA support is another thing entirely...it will mean no transfer of audio is necessary. You obviously have to get the beta for Melodyne from them.
Not 100% sure but I assume the Reaper pre-releases have the ARA support.

Until Melodyne and Reaper come out with new versions using ARA2, you MUST use the VST3 version of Melodyne with Reaper.

I'm not sure what you mean "you MUST use the VST3 version of Melodyne with Reaper." Isn't the VST3 version of Melodyne what I am loading into the FX been. How would I use the VST3 version? I'm thinking I need to open Melodyne freestanding outside of Reaper and process the waveform of the track there and import it back into Reaper. Is that your understanding? Thank for any more clarification you can give me.

PS - I'm gonna checkout the link and the "play track first before clicking Transfer button" and see how that works; however, that thread states that there are still issues with that process.

There was a VST2 version. Make sure you use the VST3 version.
