Default extending midi items

Hi,

Very new Reaper user here. I have been able to take 4 bar midi sequences and extend them over parts of my composition by dragging the end bar. If I drag across 20 additional bars I get 6 sets of the sequence, counting the first. I have just made a 1 bar sequence and cannot get it to exhibit the same behavior. When I drag the end of the sequence I just get blank midi. Is there some minimum number of bars that must be created before you can get the duplication process to work?

Thanks!

No, one bar is fine. But right click on it and check Item Settings/Loop item source is ticked.

[Hah, too late, but already typed]

Hello joebataz and welcome to these forums. You'll find many helpful people here and a lot of useful information. Make sure that you:
Nope, the looping does not depend on the initial length of the MIDI item. The behaviour is driven by one of the item's properties - "loop source". For that 4-bar sequence it is set so that dragging out the length loops the content. For the 1-bar sequence it is not set so dragging out the length just adds empty space.

You can change the setting by right-clicking the item, selecting "Item settings" the "Loop item source". Or by right-clicking the item, selecting "Item properties" and changing it there.
