Default Track name text color - different for different tracks?

Hi,

I don't think this is possible - but I'll ask, just in case someone has tried this.

I'd love to have different colour text names for
Audio
MIDI
Instrument
Busses

I know you can colour the whole track (with some themes), or just colour a little bar on RH side in tcp (I like this better) - but different colour text just distinguishes them a little more ;-)

Is there a way?

Thanks.

It is pretty simple to do, actually...

You can make separate layouts for each type of track, then use WALTER to define the label text colors for each one.

mcp.label.color:
Track name text colors (RGB)

Example - set mcp.label.color [100 100 100]

It would also work the same way for the TCP,

Example - set tcp.label.color [100 100 100]

OK - I haven't tried WALTER yet - I've only hacked with some png files and played with a few rtconfig settings.

I'll take a look at some point.

So, basically I'll have to make a few different tcp and mcp layouts - for the different colour text? Kind of like the different colour faders you get in some themes?

Yes, it's the same general idea.

What theme are you wanting to modify, and have you made any changes to it through the tweaker?
Are the changes to images and rtconfig you've tried in that theme?

I'm using Commala 5 dark.
I've made loads of changes with the tweaker - and worked out how to set tinttcp in rtconfig.txt
(see the last post here
(https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=171193&page=3)

I changed some pngs for the mute and solo buttons, and the piano key colours in MIDI editor (reversed the black and white keys to the correct colour) - but that was just messing around with paint.net.

I haven't tried WALTER yet - there's too much else to learn first ;-)

PS - there didn't seem to be contact form the guy who made Commala - in that thread...

I'm familiar with the theme... if you would like, you can email yours to me along with info on what layouts and color you would want as each type, and I will make the modifications for you.

My email is in my profile info... just let me know.

EDIT - email was bounced - I'll just post here...

That is an incredibly generous offer!

I have zipped up my Commala folder here
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hipx5u6gd...hBJmKjLZa?dl=0

I only use a few of the layouts, and I've put a doc in that folder with the colours I'd like to use. I will not be choosy though - so any colours that you pick would be great in the layouts that I've listed (if you add them to any more of the layouts, that would just give flexibility.)

I'm basically just using:
“TCP (vertical meters) - gold fader”
“tracking”
“default TCP”
“def MCP - gold fader”
“def MCP - white fader”

If this turns out to be too complicated, please let me know, and don't bother ;-)

We can always revisit this when I eventually get around to trying out WALTER ;-)

Thanks again, and please let me know how it goes ;-)

Got the email and files with no problems. I guess Yahoo is just being weird.

I'll get to this in the next couple of days.

I'm going to mention this here - rather than via email - in case anyone else can benefit from this.

First of all, Cincikat sent me my modded theme back, and I was able to tweak it to perfection. so, thanks again for that!!

As a question of semantics:
When we're editing the rconfig.txt file - and adding lines like you mentioned above

Code:
Layout "-TCP MIDI" "fader-blue"
        set tcp.volume tcp.volume
        set tcp.label.color [10 120 180]
        EndLayout
Are we "using WALTER"?

(Remember, I'm new to this)
I thought WALTER was going to be some utility, where you told it what colors to use, and fed in various things - and it "compiled" (well, produced all the right files with the right syntaxes) your theme.

I thought I was just hacking away at some text files - rather than getting involved with this whole "official" process.

But the more I read - hacking away with rtconfig.txt, and playing around with the png files etc - *IS* "using WALTER". Isn't it? ;-)

The pieces are slowly starting to come together... ;-)
