Default Automatic scrolling - a lottery ?

I have set "automatically scroll view during playback" and I would expect it will be just automatically scrolling when watching playback. But sometimes it scrolls, other time it is stuck on the same view , while playback is already somewhere else. Quite annoying. How could "automatic scrolling" become really automatic scrolling ?

Preferences > Audio > Playback > "Don't autoscroll view (when enabled) when viewing other parts of the project"

If you uncheck this, it will always autoscroll. But, you'll find it difficult to edit while playing back at times.

You can toggle autoscroll on and off via the action list, but that gets a little tricky too, iirc toggling it while already playing back does nothing.

My suggestion is to leave the "don't autoscroll" option checked. Then make a custom action:

"move edit cursor to play cursor"
"View: go to play position"

this macro always makes autoscroll pick up at the current position.

If you have a 5 or more button mouse, map this action to one of those buttons. It'll be second nature after you work with it for a while. A key or controller button works fine too of course, but if you are mostly a mouse editor like me, having this on the mouse works very well.

Good Tip. A toolbar button is a good option for that action as well.
