Default Switching to Reaper / Cross platform compatibility

Hey everyone.

Im in a techno duo. One of us uses Cubase on PC and the other uses Studio One on Mac.

Thinking of making the switch to both of us using Reaper but I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using Reaper across platform or any advice for doing so.

We'll both have all the same plug ins (albeit pc and mac versions) and ideally want to just save versions of projects and send them back and forth to each other.

Your input would be appreciated. Cheers.

Andy

* use VST, not AU
* freeze your Melodyne edits

it should work

In addition to the suggestions above (using the VST version of the plugins on both PC and macOS), another good strategy in general for sharing projects is to use
File > Save Project As with the following options checked at the bottom of the Save window:
  • Create subdirectory for project
  • Copy all media into project directory

This way all the necessary audio files which are used or imported into the project are saved into a single project folder.

Some general hints about file management can be found here:

And welcome to the Reaper Forums!

In case you haven't already found them, make sure to also check out the User Guide (https://www.reaper.fm/userguide.php) and Videos section (https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php) in general. Lots of useful info there.

all good suggestions and it should work just fine... you on PC, other on Mac, both in reaper.... no more problems...

oh maybe tiny ones like the input and output of a track cuz you'll likely have diff audio interfaces... but no real hassles

Also consider that JS plugins are "OS unaware". Reaper compiles them upon loading. The same JS plugins can be used on OSX, Windows and Linux.
