Default How to set up Reaper for mastering from console

I'd like to mixdown to a stereo channel from an analog
console and not sure how to do it. I'm currently creating
projects using between 8 and 16 tracks in Reaper routing
all the recorded tracks directly to the stereo master
channel in Reaper then out to the console.....so I'd like to take
the stereo master out from the console back into reaper
to a stereo channel for the final mix. Do I just add the needed
mixdown channel(s) in the same reaper project, so I'd end up with
17 channels, 16 mono recorded channels and one stereo mix
down channel...or is there another way to do this?

Have you tried this?

I've done something similar running my mix through a tape machine. The simplest way is to output the mix through 2 channels, and record the result onto s new stereo track, as you suggested.
